PhilBoxing.com

With 87 Percent of "S?lo Boxeo Tecate" Viewers' Votes, Vargas to Receive Belt this Weekend

NEW YORK (October 14, 2011) - Throughout this season of "S?lo Boxeo Tecate," viewers at home have had the opportunity to celebrate their passion for boxing by voting for the fighter who displays the most talent, determination and car?cter in the ring each Friday night. Today, Cerveza Tecate is proud to announce that Jessie Vargas (17-0-0, 9 KO's) will be awarded the third "Cintur?n Tecate" belt of 2011, having earned viewers' respect and 87% of all votes cast during his July 8 fight against Walter Estrada at Buffalo Bill's Star of the Desert Arena in Primm, Nev. which Vargas won by second round knockout.

Vargas will accept the award during the Sunday, October 16 edition of Univision's premier sports talk show "Rep?blica Deportiva," and share with his fans what it means to be a boxer con car?cter (broadcast begins at 1:00 p.m. ET/11:00 a.m. PT on Univision).

Vargas is an undefeated Mexican-American boxer who currently resides in Las Vegas, Nev. He is promoted by pound for pound king Floyd Mayweather's Mayweather Promotions, and is considered one of the sport's brightest rising stars. Most recently, he defeated Josesito Lopez on the undercard of the Mayweather vs. Ortiz HBO Pay-Per-View event on Sept. 17 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Currently trained by Roberto Alcazar, Vargas also had an impressive amateur career, having become a two-time Mexican National Champion, a two-time U.S. Junior National Champion and a member of the 2008 Mexican Olympic team. He continues to climb the rankings of the junior welterweight division and is looking to make a world title run in the near future.

"Cintur?n Tecate" (Tecate Belt) is an award created to support the boxers who display the most car?cter in the ring during the "S?lo Boxeo Tecate" broadcast each Friday night on TeleFutura. Tecate recognizes that viewers at home are the best judges and allows them to participate by sending a text message to 55333 or visit Univision.com to vote for their favorite boxer of the night.
