PINOY PRIDE 9: WEIGHTS FROM BACOLOD

PhilBoxing.com

Bacolod City ? Donnie ?Ahas? Nietes easily made the light flyweight division limit of 108 lbs on his first attempt but defending WBO champion Ramon ?Principe? Garcia Hirales of Mexico weighed 108 ? lbs and had to sweat before making the stipulated weight.

The City of Smiles will be hosting its first ever world championship fight and the hometown fans hope that local hero Nietes will not disappoint them.

AJ ?Bazooka? Banal of Ermita, Cebu weighed 117 ? lbs while Mario Briones of Mexico weighed in at 117 lbs for their twelve round fight for Banal?s WBO Asia-Pacific bantamweight title.

?Prince? Albert Pagara of Maasin City weighed 115 ? lbs while East African Shabani Madilu weighed only 109 ? lbs. This non-title eight round fight was set at 116.

Cebu boxing fans can witness the above match-ups on pay-per-view on SM Cinema and Sky cable, another first for a local title fight not involving Manny Pacquiao.

The vacant Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) minimumweight title will be at stake when Merlito ?Tiger? Sabillo (103 ? lbs) of Bacolod City squares off against Rodel Tejares Singwangcha (105 lbs) of Baguio City.

For the other undercard bouts, Melvin Gumban (116 ? lbs) of Escalante, Neg. Occidental will fight Richard Donaire (117 lbs) of Gen. Santos City ( 8 rounds), Jun ?Flash? Intor (122 ? lbs) of Mabinay, Neg. Occidental against Gilbert Graciano (122 ? lbs) of Gensan (4 rounds), JP Artieda (112 ? lbs) of Bacolod City vs Kazuya Harada (113 lbs) of Japan (4 rounds), and Reymund Tabogon (110 lbs) of Cagayan de Oro vs Lito Dante (110 ? lbs) of Tagbilaran City.

The weigh-in was supervised by the Games and Amusements Board and WBO Asia-Pacific head Leon Panoncillo. Attending the event were the ring officials including the referee of the world title bout Robert Byrd, ALA Gym star Milan Melindo and the now retired Z Gorres.

Fight day Saturday October 8 will be at the Univ. of St. LaSalle Coliseum. Gates open at 5 PM and fights start at 6PM.
