TOO MUCH DEFENSE LEAD TO DOMINGO LOSS - VILLAMOR By Daniel Quindao Guden PhilBoxing.com Sun, 25 Sep 2011 ![]() Too much defense and a lack of offense was the reason pointed out by ALA chief trainer Edito "Ala" Villamor for the unanimous decision loss of "Bruce Lee" Michael Domingo at the hands of "Gintong Kamao" Drian Francisco (21-1-1, 16KO) last Friday at the Makati Coliseum. Villamor lamented that if only their gameplan was followed, there would not have been no reason for Domingo not winning his bout, "It was a close fight between the two boxers, sa akong tan-aw mas daghan lang ug delivery si Francisco (Drian) compared ni Domingo (Michael) apan sa gameplan namo wala niini makuha kay too much defense ra kaayo" Villamor said via email. (It was a close fight between the two boxers. Francisco delivered more punches, the gameplan was not followed closely with too much defense on Domingo's part.) Villamor also said that the cut inflicted by a headbutt was small and was not a factor in the fight. They just lost in terms of punches landed. Domingo may have been going for a knockout win, thus sacrificing punch volume for single power shots. But the Batangas based Francisco had good defense also. "The plan was to be more aggressive and using more jabs, upper and hook combinations using his left hand and followed by a straight and upper combos but it was not done, Drian is awkward but he's good puncher, sayang gyud apan dili to para iyaha, too bad but I guess it just wasn't for him" said the trainer and former RP minimumweight champion from Davao del Sur but now based in Pagsabungan, Mandaue City, Cebu. "Sorry coach", said Domingo after the bout. I felt sorry for Domingo, he's good and humble person, anyway he has accepted the loss. But in my honest opinion, it was a draw.? Villamor added. ("Naluoy jud ko para niya kay he's good and humble person, anyway nakadawat raman siya (Domingo) sa kapildihan.? Apan kung si Villamor ang pahukmon tabla ang maong sangka, "sa akong tan-aw honestly in my own opinion it was a draw".) In an article written by Edri Aznar of Sunstar Cebu, ALA promotions president Michael Aldeguer, who manages Domingo, said that the Libak, Sultan Kudarat fighter should think about whether to continue with his career. Domingo's record of 42-16-3, 23KO's is the main reason why his chances for a world championship fight are very slim. The fight billed as "PINOY WARRIORS" was presented by Saved By the Bell (SBB) Promotions of Elmer Anuran and Solar Sports.
