World bareknuckle heavyweight boxing champion Bobby Gunn to defend his title against James Quinn PhilBoxing.com Thu, 22 Sep 2011  In February of 2012 two of the top bareknuckle boxers in the world will collide as current world bareknuckle champion Bobby ?The Celtic Warrior? Gunn puts his title on the line against world renowned bareknuckle fighter James ?The Mighty? Quinn. This past August Gunn claimed the title when he defeated Richard Stewart by way of third round knockout. Gunn?a seven time cruiserweight world champion inside the square circle?lobbied for the fight against fellow friend Quinn to give fight fans the fight they want. ?James Quinn is a good pal of mine, and he is one of the most recognized bareknuckle fighters in the world,? said Gunn. ?It?s an honor to have the chance to defend my title against such a high caliber and respected fighter, and I can promise fans that we will put on a show.? Quinn?s presence has been all over the internet these past few weeks in anticipation of the movie Knuckle. Quinn stars in this epic 12-year journey into in the world of an Irish Traveller community, taking the public inside their brutal, secretive and exhilarating bare-knuckle fighting lives. Chronicling a history of violent feuding between rival families, the story focuses on two brothers as they fight for their reputations and the honor of their family name. Gunn and Quinn will be attending the premier of Knuckle in New York City next Friday, September 30 amongst several Hollywood celebrities. ?I wanted to challenge Bobby Gunn for the world heavyweight bareknuckle boxing title, and we are going to do it the old fashioned way?no rounds, a marathon fight. We fight until a fighter can?t fight anymore. We have been working hard to make this fight happen, and we now have an investor who wants to set it up in Iceland for February. We wanted to make sure we had sufficient time to prepare and train for this battle. Bobby and I are gladiators in the ring, but before that we are gentlemen, and are going to attend the premier with our teams. I can promise that this fight is going to be historic and go down as one of the best bareknuckle fights ever. Although Knuckle is currently being discussed with HBO for a miniseries, we are looking to have the fight on Pay Per View. I am excited to make this happen with Bobby. It will undoubtedly be a fight to the finish between two warriors.? Since the first bareknuckle boxing match since 1889, the new sport has garnered much attention throughout the world. Gunn is eager to get back in to defend his title. ?I accepted James ?The Mighty? Quinn?s challenge. I am currently the linear world heavyweight bareknuckle boxing champion, and until someone takes my title from me, it will be mine. I am glad to be working together with Quinn on this. I have had some bad experiences with politics and such in the boxing world, but it is nice going into this that it is a straight forward deal with good people. This is a money making fight, and we are confident it will be received hugely on Pay Per View. This is more than simply a street fight between two inebriated men in an alley; both warriors have combined well over 100 bareknuckle fights, and revered as two of the best in the sport.
