'PINOY WARRIORS' BATTLE BETWEEN DRIAN FRANCISCO AND MICHAEL DOMINGO FREE TO THE PUBLIC By Dennis U. Saved by the Bell Promotions president Elmer Anuran and Solar Sports announced yesterday that the fightcard on September 23 at the Makati Coliseum to be headlined by the clash between former World Boxing Association interim super flyweight titleholder Drian ??Golden Fists?? Francisco and world class fighter Michael Domingo of the popular ALA Stable will be free in order to allow ring fans to savor world-class boxing action. ??Solar Sports and SBB decided to open the gates for free on a first-come, first-served basis. We believe that ??Pinoy Warriors?? will be a huge step in boosting the sport?s popularity because of its exciting roster,?? wika ni Anuran. Anuran is also expecting celebrities to watch the event. He also thanked the Makati City government headed by Mayor Junjun Binay for its wholehearted support to the Pinoy Warriors which is dubbed as one of the country?s best ever boxfest insofar as Filipino fighters are concerned. ??It is not common to see two Filipino fighters capable of winning the world title exchanging punches. Ring fans can be assured of non-stop action between Domingo and Francisco,?? noted Anuran, a young sportsman-businessman from Agoncillo, Batangas. While thanking the ALA leadership headed by Tony and Michael Aldeguer for their support, Anuran encouraged fans to come early. ??Pinoy Warriors will start at 6 p.m. and fans must come earlier than 5 p.m. to get free tickets,?? said Anuran. Francisco (20-1-1,16 KOs) and pride of Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro trades punches with Domingo (41-15-2, 19KOs), who is popularly known as Bruce Lee. In an interview at the Touch Gloves Boxing Gym in Agoncillo, Batangas, Francisco, who hails from a family of boxers, said he is looking forward in testing Domingo. Francisco, 27, said he welcomes the underdog tag and knows the importance of this bout to his career. ??I learned a lot from my last loss in Thailand. This is my comeback bout and I don?t want to disappoint my fans. Domingo is a very good fighter and I?m sure he will come here to win but my team has prepared me excellently for this bout,?? said Francisco during a lull in training under the watchful eyes of veteran Benny dela Pe?a. But before the two world-class fighters test each other in the bout which may determine their future in boxing, Roberto Gonzales aka Calibre of Saved by the Bell Promotions and battle-scarred Balweg Bangoyan nicknamed the Davao Hitman will clash with each other. Gonzales, a look-alike of former world champion Rolando ??Bad Boy from Dadiangas?? is still unbeaten in 18 pro fights,while Bangoyan (16-3-0, 7 KOs) of Davao del Sur is formerly a WBC International super bantamweight and Philippines Boxing Federation titleholder. Both fighters are known for their power punches. They like to mix it up and Anuran believes that the bout will be action-filled. ??Like the main event, the Gonzales-Bangoyan clash is a must-see for ring fans,?? noted Anuran. ??Solar and Saved by the Bell have one thing in mind when we were finalizing Pinoy Warriors.We?ve wanted to give excellent fights because we owe it to the fans.?? Gonzales, 20, likes to be world champion someday. ??My dream is to become world champion because I want to help my family,?? said the 5-foot-6 Gonzales.
