DOMINGO VS. FRANCISCO: A CLASSIC FIGHT IN THE MAKING By Chito Yu Katangkatang PhilBoxing.com Tue, 13 Sep 2011 ?I do not know if Drian Francisco made the right decision in choosing to fight me. I will give him the answer on September 23,? this was the opening statement of Michael Domingo when I spoke to him during the Pinoy Pride VIII even in Cebu City. ?Drian is a good fighter, he has a better record than me I must admit. But records do not guarantee you will win. Melendez had a better record than me but I broke his ribs. I am not saying I will do the same to Francisco, all I am saying is that I promise the fans a great fight and that it will be an event worth watching. Drian is a brave warrior and so am I. We both have our pride and honor to uphold. Thus, I am sure there will be no running away from each other.? Michael Domingo has always been the shy and soft spoken guy I have known. But when asked about fighting a fellow Filipino contender in Drian Francisco, he projects an aura of confidence and bravado. Domingo is an elite fighter whose early career was tarnished with unnecessary losses due to mismanagement. He was fed into the wolves a lot of times mostly in fights abroad and at a higher weight category which made him loss due to size disadvantage. Michael is a natural bantamweight and will be too small at higher divisions. Domingo?s career had been somehow rehabilitated when he was taken in by ALA Promotions. He began his winning streak and defeated opponents one after the other in a convincing fashion. The only latest setback in his career was his recent loss to Vusi Malinga via close decision in a title eliminator held in South Africa. Drian Francisco on the hand has been a very exciting prospect regarded by many pundits as the next world champion our country will produce. Francisco was on a 20 fight winning streak and was on the second defense of his WBA Interim Super Flyweight Title when he was defeated by Thai challenger Tepparith Singwangcha in a heartbreaking upset. Drian vowed to come back strong. His manager and promoter Elmer Anuran decided to pit him up with a very tough opposition in order to make a loud come back and make a bold statement that he is once again ready to compete at a top level. ?Domingo will be the toughest test for Drian, he is better than any foreign opponent we have ever faced. It is therefore a make or break fight for Francisco. But I am confident my ward will win this one. Drian has been training hard and I have never seen him so focused,? Anuran told this writer. This match-up is truly an every boxing fan?s dream kind of fight. Thus I am more than confident that this event will be a certified barnburner and can possibly qualify as a Fight of the Year Candidate. Pinoy Warriors: Francisco vs. Domingo will held on September 23, 2011 at 6PM, Makati City Coliseum and is being brought to us by Saved by the Bell Promotions and Solar Sports.
