EL METODICO STOPS OVERWEIGHT ROSAS, READY FOR WORLD TITLE FIGHT By Chito Yu Katangkatang PhilBoxing.com Sun, 11 Sep 2011 In a classic show of ring craftsmanship, Milan ?El Metodico? Melindo forced an overweight Francisco Rosas to quit on his stool after the tenth round during the Main Event of the Pinoy Pride 8 at the jam-packed Waterfront Cebu City Hotel last night. What we saw was an upgraded version of Melindo who surprised the crowd with better speed, accuracy and a higher level of aggressiveness all throughout the fight. El Metodico methodically broke down the defense of Rosas with a variety of punch combos which left the Mexican at awe thus leaving him with no choice but to call it the night after taking ten rounds of punishment from ALA?s little big man Melindo. Unlike his previous fights which only showed the technical side of Milan with his hit and never get hit style, Melindo went toe to toe at times and traded punches with the willing Mexican. Melindo shot Rosas with hard hooks to the body and accurate headshots which made him dominant round per round of the fight. Rosas? weight advantage allowed him to absorb many power punches from the Filipino but one sharp punch to the head in round 5 gave Rosas a bloodied nose which became the constant target of Melindo. At the end of round ten, Rosas and his corner decided not to take further risks and retired on his stool thus giving Melindo another TKO victory thus improving his record to W29 (KO9) L0, D0 and making him the new WBO Inter-Continental Flyweight Champion. After the fight, ALA Promotions President Michael Aldegeuer disclosed that a world title fight is being arranged as Melindo?s next break. They are eyeing WBA Flyweight Champion Hernan ?Tyson? Marquez as Milan?s next opponent but they are also looking at other options. ALA Promotions will do everything in its capacity to stage Melindo?s world title fight before his own countrymen in Cebu City. Photos by Dong Secuya.
