MONTOYA OUTGUNS PAGARA, SERVANIA DOMINATES GUERRERO By Chito Yu Katangkatang PhilBoxing.com Sun, 11 Sep 2011 Jason Pagara suffers his second career loss in the hands of Mexican Rosbel Montoya. Montoya came in one pound overweight which gave more advantage to the already bigger opponent. Pagara came in strong and aggressive thus giving him the first two rounds but faded later on as the stronger Montoya countered his way in every round. The Mexican also appeared to be in the better condition since the pace of his game went consistent up to the last round. Pagara was able to land some good punches but Montoya was able to absorb the shots and came back with better shots of his own. Pagara just couldn?t penetrate the defense of his opponent and failed to solve Montoya?s effective style. In the later rounds, Pagara tried to exhaust every remaining strength and get more aggressive hoping to turn the game around but Montoya was just the better man at the end of the fight. Montoya failed to make the weight limit thus making the Pagara?s title declared vacant. It?s back to the drawing board for the young Pagara but does not mean the end of the promising prospects bright career. ALA assured that they will continue to work on Pagara?s career and make his second loss serve as a lesson and work for the better. Top photo: Montoya (R) connects with a right to Pagara's head. In another co-featured bout, Bacolod?s fighting pride Genesis Servania remained undefeated after annihilating his first foreign opponent Gerson ?El Nene? Guerrero via Unanimous Decision. Servania gave the Mexican Veteran a boxing clinic and claimed every round of their eight round affair. The battle tested Guerrero showed resilience by absorbing Servania?s hard shots and stood on his foot up to the last round. After the fight, El Nene showed his appreciation to the Cebuano Crowd by bowing at the center of the ring and waving to the fans before his exit. The eighth episode of the Pinoy Pride Series was a definite success with the jam-packed grand ball room of the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and with tickets being sold out a week before the fight. With the successful event, ALA Promotions will start getting busy for a bigger event which is the world title fight featuring former WBO Minimumweight King Donnie ?Ahas? Nietes in his quest to become a two division world champion. Nietes will face WBO Light Flyweight Champion Ramon ?Principe? Garcia-Hirales of Mexico on October 10 at the La Salle Coliseum in Bacolod City. Click here to view a list of other articles written by Chito Yu Katangkatang. |
