FORMER AMATEUR GOLD MEDALIST DAVE PE?ALOSA MAKES PRO DEBUT ON OCT.1 By Chito Yu Katangkatang PhilBoxing.com Sat, 10 Sep 2011 Make way for another boxing royalty who will make his debut fight as a professional on October 1, Dave Pe?alosa. Pe?alosa will face his first test against John Edu Torbiso. The fight will be co-featured under the card of his elder brother Dodie Boy Pe?alosa Jr. at the Hoops Dome, Lapu-Lapu City and will be aired via GMA7. I have known Dave as a boxer way before I have heard about Dodie Boy Jr. I saw the kid fight during the September 2009 National Amateur Tournament in Bacolod City. He fought from day one, knocking most opponents out despite the protective gears on. One opponent whom he KOed was the sensational amateur and now professional Rhai-rhai Guanzon who broke his nose in the fight. Dave Pe?alosa bagged the gold in that tournament and I knew from then on that this lad has the making of a world champion. Just, like his older brother Dodie Jr., talent runs in the blood. Being son to Dodie Boy Sr. and nephew of Gerry Pe?alosa who are both boxing legends, Dave is oozing with so much potential. Three things I have observed in his amateur fights were his power, speed and accuracy, three ingredients that matter in the sport of boxing. On his way to the gold medal, Dave conquered his enemies aggressively and knocked them out and yet he also dominated others by punching his way and using the ring to his advantage. He is a thinking fighter. Dave wanted to turn pro years ago, but his father, the great Diosdado Pe?alosa advised him to focus on his studies first and wait for a while since he is still on the process of polishing the skills of his Kuya Dodie who was turning pro. Dave was a good son and took the advice. Now that his Uncle Gerry and Dad Dodie Boy Sr. gave their blessings, Dave Pe?alosa is out to make his own name. As a personal witness to this kids talent, I am making this bold prediction that this young man will be a world champion in two years and when that time comes, not one but two Pe?alosas will be waving our Flag in the world of boxing.
