EDEN SONSONA AND THE DIFFICULT WAY TO REDEMPTION By Chito Yu Katangkatang PhilBoxing.com Wed, 03 Aug 2011 Eden Sonsona. When a person falls, he can choose to just crawl to keep going or stand up and move forward. Eden Sonsona has decided it?s not over for his boxing career and is now working his way back and moving forward. I commend this kid for his courage to admit his mistakes and ask for another chance. I recently caught up with Eden who is busy training for his coming fight this week under the Laban ng Lahi Dugong Kampeon card to be held in Cebu City. He shared to this writer that his journey back to boxing has not been easy lately. ?I hear people call me a bum and an addict. It hurts but I am part to blame because I made mistakes in the past. It is just painful that instead of pushing Pinoy Boxers to do better in their career, it has been so easy for people to judge us. They scream and clap at you when you are victorious in the ring, but the will label you as a bum when you fail to meet their expectations. This has not happened only to me, I know fellow boxers who experienced the same. But it is okay. I control the direction of my career and I am challenged by all the humiliations. I will climb my way back to the top by my own hard work and with the help of my friends.? Such words were said with much emotion that I cannot help but sympathize with this boxer from General Santos. I have seen him conquer his opponents inside the ring and I have no doubts that this lad has the raw talent. I admire the generosity and kindness of Mr. Ian Bicera who gave Eden another shot without asking for anything in return. In the world of boxing that is teeming with sharks and crocodiles, Mr. Bicera is an exception. He believes that Eden is worth helping and with the proper guidance, he can still become a world champion. ?I am here to share whatever resources I have to help him get back on track. The rest is up to him. If he works hard and improve, good. But if he goes back to his vices, then it?s over?, Bicera told this writer. Eden needs a good showing this Saturday in his comeback fight against Eman Labanza. This will be his ticket to better fights ahead. Former Champ and now boxing promoter Gerry Pe?alosa has good plans for Sonsona if his performance is convincing. He has been seen sparring at the Elorde Gym wherein he has been knocing down his sparring mates. He looked ripped and ready to rumble anytime. He is under the guidance of trainer Lito Monte and coach Angel ?Pogi? Mejia. As he spars inside the ring, it can be seen that his guy his hungry to redeem himself from his critics and prove to everyone that being inside the boxing ring is where he belongs. Laban ng Lahi ?Dugong Kampeon? will be held at the Mandaue City Sports Complex, Cebu on August 6, 2011 at 5 PM and will be telecast on Sunday, August 7, 2011, 10AM to 12 NN at GMA Channel 7. Good luck Eden! You have more believers than detractors. Never say never and put up a great fight! Click here to view a list of other articles written by Chito Yu Katangkatang. |
