RP CHAMP SULTAN TAMES JAPANESE

Philippine welterweight champ Dondon Sultan hurdled one more hump to his aim of yet another crack at a regional title after he prevailed on a majority decision over Japanese Ryuichi Kuwana over ten rounds last Sunday at the Tateyama Town Hall in Toyama, Japan.
The 27-year-old Sultan, who is ranked no. 4 by the OPBF, won on two judges' scorecards, while the third judge saw the fight a draw.
Scores were 97-94, 97-95 and 97-97, giving Sultan the win, and more importantly, a chance to move up in the OPBF ratings next month.
The Labason, Zamboanga del Norte native Sultan had two unsuccessful tries for the OPBF title and once for the PABA welter crown.
