FLOYD MAYWEATHER : ?MANNY PACQUIAO, YES, YOU?RE NEXT!?

PhilBoxing.com

Los Angeles, California - It was a subdued Floyd Mayweather that appeared tonight in the second and final leg of press conferences scheduled to promote the fight between him and WBC welterweight champ Victor Ortiz. His speech was shorter than yesterday?s spiel at the Hudson Theater in New York. There was no elaborate explanation of his stance for Olympic style drug testing that derailed negotiations of his fight against rival Manny Pacquiao. There were no innuendos in his speech about Pacquiao not being clean. There was no blaming HBO nor Bob Arum nor the media this time. He probably got sick of all the questions and queries that the media threw at him at yesterday?s event. He probably got tired of explaining his side of the matter. Or he probably is just tired from the more than 6 hour trip that brought him coast to coast within a 24 hour period. Floyd Mayweather today is minus the attitude and the lengthy 15 minute speech that touched all subjects from Pacquiao to well, the subject of himself. Today he is quiet and restrained in the majority of the press conference while a boisterous Victor Ortiz is talking in the background. He simply sipped his Starbucks coffee and waited for his turn to be introduced.

And when Floyd Mayweather stepped up to the podium to speak, you can see a visible change of demeanor from the unbeaten fighter of 41 fights from that of yesterday?s press conference in the Big Apple The boos and the hecklings from the crowd still reverberated the venue as he grabbed the microphone. He initially thanked God, the fans, the sponsors of his forthcoming fight and gave respect to the late Genaro Hernandez. He thanked Victor Ortiz for accepting this fight and his usual quip of ?taking the test.? He stressed that he ?only wanted to fight the biggest and the best out there? and followed that up with words that will be the headline of most boxing sites tonight and tomorrow. ?Manny Pacquiao, yes, you?re? next."

That statement drew cheers and boos from the large crowd gathered here in the Nokia Center. He never touched on any subject that pertained to the failed Pacquiao fight on the rest of his speech. He focused on the fight at hand and his opponent on Ortiz. A difference from yesterday where he delved on Pacquiao for a lengthy amount of time. He probably was advised by the people behind this promotion to talk more of this event rather than that of one involving Pacquiao. He did addressed Pacquiao for the last time tonight when he said. ?My ultimate goal is to take the title from Victor Ortiz. Next we move on to Manny Pacquiao, then we move on to the next.?

Floyd Mayweather talked for about 5 minutes tonight in L.A. It was 10 minutes less than yesterday?s speech in New York. In it though are brave words uttered by a clearly frustrated and disappointed fighter against a rival which he has long been criticized of dodging. He might be facing Victor Ortiz as the posters and banners says. Despite the hype and promotions for this fight and despite the talk from Mayweather and his team about the present business at hand. He knows he will be questioned and compared of a guy he will not be sharing the ring with on September 17 in Las Vegas. Floyd Mayweather seemed resigned to the fact that all roads lead to that mega bout with Pacquiao. And this two press conferences despite it supposedly about being the business of Floyd Mayweather versus Victor Ortiz are showing undertones of that of Floyd Mayweather versus Manny Pacquiao.
