BATANGAS RUMBLE: CALIBRE GONZALES REMAINS UNDEFEATED WITH KO VICTORY By Chito Yu Katangkatang PhilBoxing.com Mon, 13 Jun 2011 In the main event of RUMBLE: Independence Day Showdown, undefeated Super Featherweight prospect Roberto ?Calibre? Gonzales delivered another crowd pleasing performance before the people of Agoncillo, Batangas by stopping Former WBO 130 lbs. AsPac Champion Amor Tino thus improving his record to W18(KO10)-L0-D0. Gonzales dominated every round of the fight before ending the night early with a crushing right straight-right hook combination to the right eye of Tino sending him to the canvass in Round 3. Tino failed to beat the count thus prompting referee Ver Abainza to stop the fight. In the supporting main event, another undefeated Touch Gloves Stable prospect added excitement to the night?s event by delivering another stoppage victory. Undefeated Light Flyweight contender Lolito Sonsona improved his resume to W14 (KO5)- L0 ? D2 when his opponent Marvin Avila retired on his stool after the sixth round due to an eye injury caused by a valid power punch. Sonsona showcased his excellent ring generalship by dictating the tempo of the fight in every round. Sonsona is the younger brother of another rising contender Eden Sonsona and is the first cousin of former champ Marvelous Marvin Sonsona. In the undercards, Featherweight Van Bantilan of Chad Boxing Stable scored a knock down in round one and dominated the rest of the rounds against Vic Racoma thus getting a UD victory. Touch Gloves Stable?s Jun Doliguez knocked out Mike Tumbaga at 2:20 of round 6 with a wicked double right uppercut. Doliguez?s undefeated record improved to W8(KO5)-L0. Minimumweight prospect Ren-Ren Ruiz of the Gerry Pe?alosa Boxing Gym dominated Dodoy Alapormina en route to a six round unanimous decision. Super Featherweight Jaypee Ignacio escaped with a majority decision victory in a very close fight versus Dizon Cag-ong of Brother Boxing Gym. Minimumweight Oliver Gregorio of Touch Gloves Stable scored his first professional win with a first round TKO victory over John-John Plamiano. Featherweight Rene Manlapaz of RJ Boxing Stable won a majority decision over Jovill Marayan Malolos Bulacan. Mark Canecio Alquezar of the Elorde Boxing Gym. It was a jam packed Agoncillo, Batangas Municipal Gym attended by its very charismatic and supportive Mayor Glorioso ?Aglo? Martinez. The event was also graced by boxing icon and two-time world champion Gerry ?Fearless? Pe?alosa who was at the ring-side with his lovely wife Goody and their two kids. Also present were the man behind the event: Promoter Elmer Anuran, the GMA sports crew headed by its unit manager Ms. Marivic Araneta, boxing sensations Drian Francisco, Val Sabaupan, and Eden Sonsona who was present to support his brother Lolito. The fight was presented by Elmer Anuran?s Saved by the Bell Promotions, GMA, ALA EH Party List and Honorable Mayor Aglo Martinez.
