Undefeated Bantamweight Jundy Maraon is Back! PhilBoxing.com Mon, 16 May 2011 ![]() Jundy Maraon. Davao City - After a two-year layoff because of a seriously swollen left hand knuckles, undefeated bantamweight prospect Jundy "Pretty Boy" Maraon is getting back to the ring to continue his quest for a world boxing title. Now based in Cebu City where he lives with his wife and a newborn baby, Maraon, 26, has recently signed a new management contract with his manager, former North Cotabato governor Manny Pinol. The southpaw from Molave, Zamboanga del Sur who holds a record of 14 wins, 11 KOs and 1 draw, was the World Boxing Organization (WBO) Asia Pacific Bantamweight champion winning it via a stunning 3rd round knockout of defending champion Jason Egera in February 2009. He defended the title in May of the same year against a Tanzanian challenger, Anthony Mathias whom he knocked down four times before the fight was stopped in the 6th. Maraon stayed out of the ring after the fight because of the continued swelling of his left hand knuckles. "Jundy told me that the long absence from the ring has healed the injured hand and he is ready to go back to boxing," said Nonito Donaire, Sr., father of bantamweight champion Nonito Jr., who will be Maraon's trainer. Pinol said the plan now is to bring Maraon back to the US where he stayed for almost one year without getting a fight in spite of the fact that he was signed up by Top Rank. Top Rank later released Maraon on the request of his manager. "We are now working with a business advisor in the US who will work on getting a working visa for Jundy to be able to train and fight in the US," Pinol said. Once in the US, Maraon will stay with Nonito Sr. and train in the San Leandro Gym where Nonito Jr. and his brother, Glenn also train. After a few fights, Maraon is expected to be back in shape as he never stopped undertaking physical exercises even during his two-year lay-off. "My walking weight is just 140 lbs. and I can easily go down to 118 lbs.," Maraon told his manager. Tall for a bantamweight at 5' 6", Maraon is considered as one of the hardest punching bantamweights in the Philippines. ![]() |
