BANTIGUE FAILS TO WIN WBO TITLE IN THAILAND
By Salven L. Lagumbay PhilBoxing.com Wed, 01 Mar 2006
Mandaue City's Louie Bantigue failed in his first crack at the big time after he was stopped in the second round by World Boxing Organization Asia Pacific superfly champ Pramuansak Phosuwan in their scheduled 12-round tiff in Bangkok, Thailand yesterday.
Bantigue, the country's no. 8 flyweight, had weighed in at an exact 115 lbs during official weigh-in held at a Bangkok hospital but found his Thai opponent too hefty on fight day as he was just a natural 112-pounder.
"The Thai proved too strong and big for him. Pramuansak was visibly bigger the day after the weigh-in," said Sammy "Don King" Gello-ani, in a long-distance interview with this writer.
The undercard, however, proved to be very competitive as Filipino Fabio Marfa went toe-to-toe against WBO Asia Pacific junior fly boss Kaichon Sor Vorap in their 6-round non-title scuffle before losing a unanimous decision.
Meanwhile, Filipino Danny Boy Bontilao gets his chance at the limelight as he challenges WBO Asia Pacific featherweight boss Terdsak Jandaeng on March 8 also in Thailand.
