PhilBoxing.com Tue, 01 Mar 2011

WBO Minimumweight World Champion Donnie ?Ahas? Nietes of the ALA Gym Philippines was recently lauded by not one but two of the most respected boxing experts in the history of the sport.
The Bacolod native who has been working wonders in the sport by winning the WBO title and defending it three times in Mexico against Mexican prospects was mentioned in a book published 2010 by Running Press Book Publishers.
The Ultimate Book of Boxing Lists written by Bert Randolph Sugar and Teddy Atlas is a book full of boxing trivia guaranteed to entertain the readers may they be die hard boxing fans or otherwise.
In the said book, Nietes was spoken well of and mentioned in the top five (5) all time minimumweight greats in the history of boxing. Nietes, when informed of this development said that he was very much humbled by Sugar and Atlas? mention of him in The Ultimate Book of Boxing Lists.
The current three time world champ Nietes is in deep preparation for his next fight and his handlers from the ALA Promotions are tirelessly working to hold it in his home country the Philippines.
The Ahas from Negros is the longest reigning active Filipino world champion and the second longest reigning Filipino world champion in history next only to the great Gabriel ?Flash? Elorde.
Nietes is in his third year of being world champion with Elorde having been world champion for over seven years in succession.
The ALA Gym mainstay is scheduled to climb up the ring tentatively on April 2011 and headline ALA Promotions and ABS-CBN Sports? mega-boxing presentation of PINOY PRIDE 5 which will be broadcast live worldwide through the reach of ABS-CBN Global?s TFC (The Filipino Channel).
