WITH WIN OVER KATSIDIS, MARQUEZ UPS ANTE FOR PACQUIAO TRILOGY

PhilBoxing.com

Las Vegas, NV: ?Pacquiao, Pacquiao, Pacquiao, I sound like a broken record already,? Marquez told a gathering of media people and Marquez supporters at the post fight conference earlier this evening.

Marquez had nothing coming out of his mouth after he stopped Michael Katsidis of Australia to retain his lightweight titles, except his repeated call for Pacquiao to give him a trilogy to see who really is the better man between the two of them.

?Yes he beat bigger fellows but they are all past their prime while I beat younger and stronger boxers like Juan Diaz and Michael Katsidis,? Marquez replied when asked about the bigger boxers that where laid on the wayside by Pacquiao.

?I will fight him at 140 or even 142 lbs. I know he can make that weight as when he fought Margarito, he was just 144 lbs. So if they insist in fight at 147, like Freddie Roach has mentioned, they are again giving excuses,? Marquez said.

Marquez for emphasis in his desire to get a trilogy with Pacquiao wore a custom made t-shirt that says that he ?beat Pacquiao twice?.

Will Marquez? victory over Katsidis merit him a trilogy with Pacquiao?

It depends on who you talk to.

If you engage Richard Schaefer in a conversation regarding that matter, he will say that ?that is the fight people and the media wanted if the Mayweather fight does not happen in 2011.?

However, some media people I spoke to think differently.

Although they appreciate and enjoyed the fight last night, some including this writer think that Marquez was good tonight but he is no longer the Marquez of old. He is slower as evidenced by the mistake he made that allowed Katsidis to drop Marquez in round 3.

Marquez admitted that he was not fast enough to raise his hand in defense and so Katsidis was able to tag him.

Although victorious, if the Marquez that came to fight Katsidis is the same Marquez that will face Pacquiao, there will be no contest particularly if they fight at 145 lbs or above.

Katsidis was able to back him up all through the fight except that fatal 9th round when Marquez was able to tag Katsidis several times but failed to drop him.
