PhilBoxing.com Sun, 10 Oct 2010
 Ramie Laput.
American Boxing Academy's Ramie Laput will be making his return to the ring this Oct 30th at the Cebu Waterfront Hotel against hard hitting KO specialist Larry "Bon Jovi" Canillas of the famed ALA boxing stable.
Laput who has 38 wins against 4 losses and is the the former WBO Intercontinental champion, is coming off a loss to former world title challenger Zolt Bedak of Germany in Viennna, Austria late last year. Laput will be using this fight against the hard punching Canillas, 14-2 with 12KOs, to try to get himself back into the title picture. Last year Laput, who hails from Davao City, was ranked as high as WBO #4 before losing his WBO Intercontinental belt to the Euoropean champion Bedak via 7th round TKO, while Canillas is coming off of a 1st round KO of Filipino Prell Tupas.
Laput's American manager Ken Smith said, "we are looking forward to Ramie's return to the ring against Larry Canillas on this star studded ALA boxing card. This fight is very important to both fighters with the winner moving into a position for a bigger fight. This should be a great match up of experience against youth and this is a real opportunity for both fighters to prove they are ready for a big fight abroad."
The Laput vs Canillas fight is the first fight on the undercard of an event stacked with talented fighters. The main event features world rated AJ "Bazooka" Banal against former two time world champion Luis Perez of Nicaragua. Banal who is highly rated in every major world sanctioning body, is likely to be fighting for a world title should he win this fight. Another fight with world title implications features Rey "Boom Boom Bautista" against Hector Avila on the Dominican Republic in a 12 round WBC regional tilte fight. The much awaited homecoming of Mark Jason Melligen has him taking on Baldimir Hernandez of Mexico. Melligen who has been fighting regularly in the USA will be coming home for his first fight in the Philippines in more than 2 years. Also scheduled to see action is young Filipino sensation Jason Pagara against Sapetech Sor Sakaorat of Thailand.
