Fresh off of back-to-back knockout wins over seasoned veterans Arturo Morua and Ernesto Zavala, Vargas is moving rapidly up the 140-pound ratings. On September 30, he will look to score his fifth win of 2010 at Club Nokia. Owner of a 33-13-3 record with 16 KO's, Pablo Sarmiento, who is originally from Argentina but now lives and trains in Oxnard, California has been a professional practitioner of the sweet science since 1992. The former world title challenger will look to pin the first defeat on unbeaten rising star Jessie Vargas this Thursday. Since returning from a three-year layoff, Las Vegas welterweight Anthony Martinez (5-0, 4 KO's) has looked better than ever, knocking out Nichoulas Briannes in 37 seconds in July, and decisoning the always tough Cristian Favela in August. He'll attempt to keep his hot streak going at Club Nokia against St. Paul, Minnesota's Ronnie Peterson (2-3, 2 KO's) in a four round televised bout. Former Irish amateur star Jamie "The Nuisance" Kavanagh (2-0, 1 KO) has only had two fights since relocating to California and beginning his pro career, but he's already garnered rave reviews for his fan-friendly style and talent. On September 30, he will open up the televised portion of the card with a four round junior welterweight battle against Santa Ana's Ricardo Malfavon (0-2). Also looking to remain unbeaten is Santa Ana's Salvador Rios (1-0, 1 KO), who will compete in a four round welterweight contest against Lancaster's Marcus Robinson who will be making his professional debut and in a lightweight four round fight, LA's Ramon Valadez (1-1) takes on Carlos Hernandez (0-2). Opening up the night of boxing will be three local amateur fights featuring Malcolm Collins of Carson against Eric Carillo of Pasadena, Luis Bello of Maywood against Jose Cruz of Meadowbrook and Osman Rivera of Pasadena facing Guillermo Corona of Hollywood. "Fight Night Club," is Golden Boy Promotions' and AEG's critically acclaimed live monthly boxing series, that presents boxing in a night club atmosphere, with a DJ, music, great food and a VIP room, as well as a unique setup where the ring is on Club Nokia's stage with standing room for fans in front of the ring, as well as reserved seating in the balcony.
