Highly ranked undefeated Thai Prospect Cholatarn O. Piriyapino grabs vacant WBO Asia Pacific Featherweight title PhilBoxing.com Fri, 17 Sep 2010 ![]() Chulatarn Piriyapino. Chantaburi, Thailand ? WBC #3 world ranked contender Chulatarn O. Piriyapino captured the vacant World Boxing Organization Asia Pacific Featherweight title this past Wednesday September 15th, at the province of Chantaburi against Tiger City Gym former Philippines Boxing Federation Super Bantamweight champion Sonny Gonzales promoted by One Songchai Promotions. Gonzales who has credited wins against highly Filipino ranked Ronald Pontillas and went the distance against Filipino prospect Bernabe Concepcion in 2006 was all heart in this fight, but could not match the talent of the undefeated Thai prospect. In the first round, Sonny Gonzales of Tiger City Gym got the better of the two and got the nod from all three Thai judges, winning the first round by jabbing and keeping the dangerous Thai prospect at bay. However, after their feeling out process, the Thai, knowing that he was in a fight shifted into second gear and latter won every round thereafter, eventually stopping his foe on the 8th, via TKO in 2:50 into the round. The brave Filipino fighter wanted to continue but referee Surat Soikrachang had seen enough and rightfully stopped the contestant before any more harm can be done to Gonzales. Highly regarded Thai prospect Cholatarn Piriyapinyo, now closer to the world title, has put on another notch to his outstanding undefeated record of 35win-0loss-20KO and a possible shot at the reigning WBO champion Juan Manuel Lopez. Thai Promoter Pariyakorn Ratanasuban informed that his boxer Chulatarn who is highly ranked in the WBC Featherweight division at #3 will be attending the WBO convention at Cartegena Columbia to encourage the WBO to also consider Chulatarn Or Piriyapino the now WBO Asia Pacific Featherweight champion with a record of 35 wins without a loss, in that same position or higher in their ranking. Pariakorn Ratanasuban is also the promoter of current world Female WBO mini flyweight champion Teeraporn Pannimit, WBO #7 light weight contender Thai Tor Silichai who holds the WBO Oriental version and current WBO #5, WBO Asia Pacific Youth bantamweight champion Pungluang Sor Singyu. ![]() |
