Melligen training for two months for Rosales rematch

PhilBoxing.com

Mark Jason Melligen has undergone intense training for two months for his July 3 rematch against WBC FECOMBOX light middleweight and WBC Mundo Hispano welterweight champion Michel "El Bravo" Rosales. The Mexican knock-out artist beat Melligen by split decision in their first encounter.

The events of that November night lingered inside Melligen?s head. He lost a close decision while being bothered about the condition of his stablemate Z ?The Dream? Gorres, who was brought to the emergency room and underwent neurosurgery after winning his bout by unanimous decision against Colombian Luis Melendez at the Mandalay Bay House of Blues in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Judges Paul Smith and Eric Cheek scored it 96-94 for Rosales while Burt A. Clements tallied 92-98 for Melligen. The third man in the ring was Vic Drakulich.

The result stung Melligen and he told this writer for Sun.Star Superbalita, dyRF Radyo Fuerza, www.sportsmanila.net and Filipino Bulletin that, "Masaya ako kasi makakalaban ko uli yong tumalo sakin, 2 months ang training ko para sa kanya (Rosales) mga baguhan ang mga naka sparing ko sa Cebu pero magagaling din sila (sparring partners) may 4 rounds, 6 ug 8 rounds sparring sessions, wala akong masasabi pero humanda siya sa akin kasi gagawin ko ang lahat para manalo ako sa laban"

(I am delighted and welcome the opportunity to face the opponent who once beat me. I have been traning for him for two months. The sparring partners I had in Cebu were new and inexperienced but were very good. We sparred for 4, 6 to 8 round sessions. He (Rosales) should be ready for me because I will do everything and what it takes to win.)

?Mighty? Melligen, hails from Bacolod City Negros Occidental, and fights under the banner of the ALA Promotions of Cebu. He is trained by U.S. based Tony Martin. The 24 year old 5?7? southpaw has a record of 18W-2L-0D, 13KO's.

He has scored two straight wins; a 6th round TKO against Raymond "Ray Lino" Gatica last February 13 in Las Vegas, Nevada followed by a 10 round unanimous decision win against Norberto "Demonio" Gonzalez last April 10 at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino also in Las Vegas.

The 27 year old Rosales is taller at 5'11 and has a record of 27W-3L-0D, 23KO's. Last February 6 he stopped Orlando "Canibal" Escobar in the 5th round in a fight held at Nuevo Leon, Mexico. Then last May 19, he knocked out in the opening round Eduardo "El Perro" Mondragon in Mexico City.

Their July 3 rematch will be at the Grand Sierra Resort, Reno, Nevada and promoted by Terry Lane of Let's Get It On Promotions and Bob Arum of Top Rank Promotions.
