Taggart inflicted heavy punishment on American Nick ?Werewolf? Whiting en route to winning a four round unanimous decision in their super middleweight fight which was the co-main event in a fight card billed as "Tomorrows Champions". The event was promoted by M.G. Robinson Promotions and matchmaker Cory Rapacz last Saturday May 22 (Sunday RP Time) at the Shooting Star Casino in Mahnomen. From the opening bell the 22 year old Taggart scored with his left jab and left-right combinations. The 30 year old Whiting continued to be at the receiving end of Taggart?s punches in the second which prompted International boxing referee Mark Nelson (son of ref Denny Nelson) to warn Whiting that he would stop the fight if he did not fight back. Whiting tried to punch back in the 3rd but Taggart continued his dominance. There were no knockdowns in the fight. The scorecards read - judge Anton Thopson 40-36, Robert Goggleye 39-37 and Rocky Papasodora 39-37 all for Taggart. Taggart was interviewed by his writer for Sun.Star Superbalita-Cebu, dyRF Radyo Fuerza 1215khz AM, www.sportsmanila.net and Filipino Bulletin said that he tried his best to score a knockout but his opponent was very strong. "I?m just executing very good, even though he's 10 pounds heavier, I thought I put him (Whiting) away but I did not, he's good fighter. "He fought beautiful tonight, his first two round its perfect, he improved a lot like his movement and defense too, its look like he's fighting a real pro boxer unlike before that fighting like an amateur" said Tim Sr. His Filipina mother Lenie Diez-Taggart hails from Sumirap, Tangub City, Misamis Occidental Southern Philippines. Taggart improves to 4W-2L-2D , 2KO while Whiting drops to 2W-13L-1D, 2KO. Tim Sr. said the popularity of Pinoy boxers has soared due to boxing icon Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao and that his son dreams of fighting in the Philippines. There are moves by the Midwest Sports Council and Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe Boxing Commission together with international sports promoter Sammy "Don King of Cebu" Gello-ani to stage a boxing promotion. In the main event rising star Javontae Starks (3-0, 3KO) immediately pounced on Alexander Tousignant (1-2, 1KO) and won by stoppage at 2:21in round one. Starks worked behind a body attack to win the USA Minnesota State light middleweight title belt. Tousignant was pinned on the ropes and was asked by the referee if he wanted to continue but he shook his head clutching his abdomen. In the other bouts, Lucas "The Pitbull" St. Clair beat Lawrence "Sonnybull" Goodman (TKO1), Charles "Chainsaw" Goodwin beat Romando "Chainstopper" Papasadora (TKO2), Jamal James beat Justin Danforth (TKO3), Zach "The Duke" Schumach beat Ryan "Machine Gun" Gronvold (UD) and Jesse Lewis capitulated in the 3rd round human after being a the receiving end of Tyler Hultin?s punches in their 4 rounds exhibition bout. * * * Top photo: Taggart (R) and Whiting.
