MELLIGEN HEADLINES ?TOP RANK LIVE? BATTLE AT THE HARD ROCK By Rod Mijares PhilBoxing.com Fri, 02 Apr 2010 ![]() Watching Melligen went six rounds of sparring sessions and additional four rounds with his Englishman trainer Tony Martin in mitt training at Mayweather gym today in Las Vegas was like watching a newly reinvigorated boxer reinvent himself after that daunting loss he suffered at the hands of Mexican Michel Rosales. Today?s training in preparation for his upcoming fight in 10 days on April 10, 2010 was characterized by him throwing more punches, his speed was more pronounced and he went in and out of the huddle with so much confidence in himself. His sparring partner barely landed a glove on Melligen as his defense and timing were becoming a second nature to him. His 2009 campaign in America produced four straight wins that started on March 7, 2009 at Denver, Colorado but met a dent at the hands of Rosales on November 13, 2009 at Mandalay Bay Casino?s House of blues on his fifth and last fight in 2009. Team Melligen headed by Tony Martin and Filipino trainer Ala Villamor went back to the drawing board with the lesson learned from that loss and guided a newly transformed Melligen to a 6th round TKO against previously unbeaten Raymond Gatica last February 13, 2010 at Las Vegas Hilton. MarK Jason Melligen (17W(13KO), 2L(1KO),0D) who could have been mistaken for a Japanese or a Korean because of his chinky eyes is very much Filipino and one of Top Rank Promotions promising star. He is fighting in the elite welterweight division where the likes of pound for pound boxer Manny Pacquiao and undefeated world champion Floyd Mayweather, Jr. thrive. Melligen?s impressive win on his last fight against Gatica got the nod of Top Rank Promotions and was trusted to headline a 9-bout ?Top Rank Live? Battle at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino on April 10, 2010 opposite equally dangerous Mexican Norberto Gonzales (18W(12KO),1L,0D). Completing the cast are two other 10-rounders of super featherweights Las Vegan Diego Magdaleno (14(3KO),0,0) and Hawaiian Manuel Perez (14(2KO), 5(1KO),1) and light welterweights Lamont Peterson (27(13KO), 1,0) from Memphis, Tennessee and Damian Fuller (30(14KO), 6(2KO),1) from Detroit. Mark Jason Melligen, one of the future of Pinoy boxers, is hoping that Filipinos in Las Vegas and nearby states of California, Arizona and Utah will watch him fight in the main event and will support him all the way like the way they support his idol, Manny Pacquiao. Melligen is dedicating this fight and all his future fight to his friend, Z Gorres.
