KONCZ IS BAUTISTA'S NEW AMERICAN REP
Salven L. Lagumbay

In his bid to gain more acceptance among American fight fans, reigning WBO Asia Pacific bantamweight king Rey "Boom Boom" Bautista has tapped the services of the California-based Michael Koncz to be his US agent/representative.

Bautista' manager Antonio L Aldeguer, accompanied by promoter Sammy "Don King" Gello-ani and trainer Edito "Ala" Villamor, informed members of Cebu media Tuesday evening in a meeting at the upscale Cebu City Sports Club that he has full trust and confidence in the capability of Koncz, and was very impressed by the latter's interest in becoming Bautista's agent.

"We consider him now a member of the ALA family," stressed Aldeguer, who at the beginning, was rather hesitant to entrust Bautista's career to the former lawyer, but realized the sincerity of the 43-year-old Konzc.

Aldeguer, who also thanked the media for its role in promoting the recent Bautista-Bolanos fight, also revealed that Konzc will help facilitate fights for Bautista in the US, starting with at least two bouts before end of this year.

Dashing in white, long-sleeved shirt, Konzc told the media in the same gathering that he was honored to be finally given the chance to represent Bautista in the United States, more so by the fact that was called by the Cebuano sportsman as a member of the ALA family.

"When I came to the ALA Gym for the first time, I was flabbergasted by the culture pervading in the gym," explained Konzc, who noted that at the ALA Gym, boxers were treated like human beings, and not like robots as wont the other gyms. "Rey Bautista reminds me of the prime Mike Tyson," he added.

"The thing that really attracted me to Filipino boxers is that aside from their natural talents, they are really nice boys. When I met Z Gorres in the States, that really encouraged me to do something," Konzc answered back when asked of his interest in Filipino pugs.

Promoter Gello-ani, for his part, said they were impressed when Koncz flew all the way to Hawaii to meet them for the Bautista fight, and stayed with the group until they flew back to the Philippines.

"I mean, Michael is really a great person. How can you turn down somebody who has done so much and exhibited great attitude towards us?" Gello-ani stressed.
