TANAMOR IN WORLD CUP FINALS
By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Sun, 14 Dec 2008
Veteran Olympian Harry Tanamor has made up for his dissppointing performance in the Beijing Olympic Games by putting on an impressive performance to enter the finals of tnghe highly competitive World Cup of the International Amateur Boxing Association (AIBA) in Moscow.
With eight of the top fighters in the world in each weight division invited to compete in Moscow, Tanamor capitalized on a favorable draw to enter the finals with a 12-4 victory over Poland's tough Lukascz Masczczyk in tnhe semi finals to arrange a showdown with stylish Cuban Yampier Hernandez for the gold medal.
The 31 year old Tanamor who qualified for the Beijing Olympics by winning a silver medal in the World Championships in Chicago in 2007 pounded the Polish fighter from the opening bell capitalizing on his longer reach and excellent defense.
The Filipino who was probably making his farewell appearance in a big international meet built up a three point lead at the end of the second round and from then on used his experience to stay out of trouble and cruise to a comfortable win to assure himself of at least a silver medal.

Tanamor who was picked by Sports Illustrated to win a medal in Beijing was the only Filipino invited to the World Cup and didn't disappoint.
A staff seargeant in the Philippine Army, Tanamor goes up against Cuban star Hernandez who also scored a comfortable 13-3 victory over Kazakhstan's Birhan Zakhypov
Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines vice president Manny Lopez who was also recently elected vice president of the Philippine Olympic Committee said "This will be a good and exciting bout for the finals as both Yampier and Harry have been slugging it out in their training in Cuba for the Beijing Olympics."
Lopez also thanked the Philippine Sprts Commission and Pacific Heights for supporting the trip.
