TRIPLE THRILLA IN COMPOSTELA By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Fri, 12 Dec 2008 ![]() ![]() Fight fans are in for a treat in a fight card dubbed ?Triple Thrilla in Compostela? which features a former world champion and two promising young regional champions at the Compostela Sports Complex in Cebu on Saturday. Headlining the card will be undefeated WBO Asia Pacific Youth flyweight champion Marvin ?Marvelous? Sonsona (9-0, 8 KO?s) who takes on rugged Jason Jeda (10-5-3, 2 KO?s). Sonsona is being groomed to debut in the U.S after a couple of more fights. Another undefeated prospect Anthony ?Rocky? Marcial (10-0, 9 KO?s) who won the WBO Oriental interim super featherweight crown last October 3 with by a third round TKO over Thong Thai Rajamondh of Thailand battles veteran Melvin Ayudthud also in a ten round bout. What fight fans are eager to see besides the promising youngsters is former IBF minimum weight champion Florante Condes who is eager to regain his status as a title contender. Condes who won the title by a twelve round unanimous decision over Muhammad Rachman of Indonesia in Jakarta on July 7, 2007 lost the title in his long-delayed first defense against Raul ?Rayito? Garcia in the Mexican?s hometown by a split decision after dropping Garcia late in the fight. He is now ranked No. 5 by the IBF and No. 6 by the WBA and the WBO and an impressive showing should soon put him in line for another title shot. Condes clashes with Ronnelle Ferrera who has only one loss as against six wins and one draw with one knockout. Condes, nicknamed ?The Little Manny Pacquiao? because of his southpaw stance and punching power has said he has been inspired by the recent victory of Pacquiao over Oscar De La Hoya and wants to regain the world title. The fight that may well steal the show is the Philippine Boxing Federation junior flyweight championship between undefeated Ronald Castrodes (8-0, 3 KO?s) who is an aggressive fighter and veteran Rodel Quilaton (20-9-1, 6 KO?s) The supporting card should also provide some hard-hitting action especially when unbeaten Elf Gitgano takes on Jason Perater in an eight round featherweight bout and another fighter with a clean slate, Jason Canoy (4-0, 4 KO?s) goes up against Andy Seneres (3-1-1-, 1 KO) over six rounds. The fights will be covered by Viva Sports for telecast on its top-rated weekly boxing show ?The Main Event? sponsored by Tanduay, the No.1 Rhum and Pagcor. The show is now aired on Saturdays at 1:00 p.m. right after "live? coverage of the NBA games by Solar Sports over CS/9, nationwide.
