After the meeting in Mexico City, the WBC is ready for 2026

With the firm objective of strengthening the foundations of world boxing and continuing to innovate in matters of safety and social responsibility, the World Boxing Council (WBC) began a productive two-day working meeting this Wednesday at the headquarters of the National Chamber of Commerce (CANACO), located in the heart of Mexico City.

The summit, chaired by the organization's leader, Mauricio Sulaimán, brings together prominent members and specialists from various areas to discuss the most relevant issues on the current boxing agenda:

Christiane Manzur (Leader of WBC Cares Mexico) and Jill Diamond (President of WBC Cares).

Alberto Guerra, Alberto León, and Rex Walker (Vice Presidents).

Robert Lenhardt and Alberto León (Legal Counsel).

Misty Movarek (Youth Title) and Mike George (Silver Title).

Bob Yalen (Counselor) and Marcos Arienti (WBC Amateur).

Juan Carlos Pelayo (President of FECOMBOX).

Dr. Ricardo Monreal (Medical Committee) and Dr. Andrew Kruger (BoxMed Leader).

Organization Operational Staff

During the first day, important points governing the organization's mission were presented and analyzed:

Safety Committee: Medical Protocols and Pre-Weigh-ins: It was reaffirmed that the athlete's physical integrity is the number one priority. The protocols for mandatory medical examinations and the 30, 14, and 7-day weigh-ins, designed to eradicate extreme dehydration and prevent brain injuries, were reviewed.

WBC Cares: The organization's social arm reaffirmed its commitment to bringing hope to hospitals and youth centers globally, in addition to mental health campaigns, cancer awareness initiatives, and other actions, demonstrating that the WBC transcends the boundaries of sport to impact lives.

New Technologies Applied to Boxing: The expansion of technological tools to ensure fairness in the ring was discussed, as well as the use of impact sensors and health monitoring applications to obtain scientific data that protects boxers.

WBC Amateur: This program was highlighted as the essential platform for training the next generation of champions under values ​​of discipline, ethics, and technique, strengthening amateur boxing worldwide.

Comprehensive Support for Promoters: The WBC recognized the work of promoters as the driving force of the industry, discussing new ways to facilitate the organization of events that benefit the entire boxing community.

The Importance of Social Media, Media, and Communications for the WBC: The WBC's communication is the bridge that connects boxing tradition with science and social responsibility, solidifying the organization not only as a sports regulator but also as an influential global opinion leader.

The meeting will conclude this Thursday, January 22, after a second day addressing additional topics of high technical and administrative relevance. The resolutions adopted will have a direct impact on the regulation and development of the sport internationally for the remainder of the year.

The WBC thus begins a year of transformation in 2026, maintaining its leadership as the governing body that ensures the constant evolution of our beloved sport.
