UNDEFEATED KNOCKOUT MONSTER VERGIL ORTIZ JR. DESTROYS ERICKSON LUBIN IN SECOND-ROUND

PhilBoxing.com

FORT WORTH, Texas (Nov. 8, 2025) — AND STILL! Undefeated knockout artist and WBC Interim Super Welterweight World Champion Vergil Ortiz Jr. (24-0, 22 KOs), of Grand Prairie, Texas, remained perfect with a dominant second-round TKO victory over top contender Erickson “The Hammer” Lubin (27-3, 19 KOs), of Orlando, Florida. Ortiz dictated the pace from the opening bell, backing Lubin to the ropes in Round 2 and unleashing a barrage of power punches that forced the referee to stop the fight at 1:30.The 12-round main event was held at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth and was presented by Golden Boy Promotions in association with ProBox and broadcast live on DAZN.

“There wasn’t much to evaluate — I just capitalized on his mistakes. I took as much information as I could and used it. The adjustments I made in the second round were to just be cautious. I’m patient,” said Vergil Ortiz Jr.

“I feel people think I’m just a come-forward fighter. Yeah, I’m a come-forward fighter — I love the fight. That’s why I’m in boxing. But you have to be smart too, and I can be smart when I want. I kind of felt I would dominate Lubin, but I just had to believe in myself, and that’s what I did. There were so many people saying I was going to get gassed or that he was going to knock me out. Look, he’s a great fighter, but there are levels to this.”

“This win motivated me a lot. We’re ready for the best — we’re going to fight the best. Boots, come over here!”

In the co-main event, Houston’s Darius “DFG” Fulghum (14-1-1, 12 KOs) and Reading, Pennsylvania’s David “Dynamite” Stevens (15-2-1, 10 KOs) went the distance in a 10-round super middleweight clash. The judges scored the bout a majority-decision draw with tallies of 96-94, 95-95, and 95-95. Making a statement in his Golden Boy debut, undefeated knockout artist Amari “The Reaper” Jones (15-0, 13 KOs) added another highlight-reel victory by stopping Shady Gamhour (14-3, 9 KOs) of Pensacola. After adjusting to Gamhour’s awkward style, Jones dropped him twice, with the bout ending at 2:54 of the third round.

Olympian and heavyweight prospect Joshua “Rocket” Edwards (5-0, 5 KOs) continued his perfect knockout streak, earning a third-round TKO over Zeno Vooris (5-6, 5 KOs) of Las Vegas. The scheduled six-round bout was halted at 2:34 when the ringside physician ruled Vooris unable to continue due to multiple cuts over his right eye. Opening the DAZN broadcast, undefeated cruiserweight Robin Safar (19-0, 13 KOs) of Las Vegas claimed the WBA Continental Americas Cruiserweight Title, handing Derick Miller Jr. (18-1, 10 KOs) of Willmore, Michigan, his first professional loss. Dominating throughout the 10-round clash, Safar scored a unanimous decision with tallies of 99-90, 99-90, and 98-91.

Headlining the prelims, middleweight Eric “The Korean Cowboy” Priest (16-0-1, 8 KOs) battled Esneiker Correa (16-6-2, 14 KOs) to a hard-fought split draw after eight rounds. Priest had difficulty adapting to Correa’s unorthodox rhythm, with the judges returning scores of 79-73, 75-77, and 76-76. In a six-round welterweight bout, Javier Meza (5-0, 2 KOs) of Amarillo remained undefeated after outpointing Joshua Briones (3-5-1, 2 KOs) of El Paso. Meza earned a unanimous decision with scores of 58-56, 58-56, and 59-55. Kicking off the night, Gilroy, Calif.'s Sam Castellanos (4-0, 3 KOs) stopped Ricardo Elizalde (0-2) of Tulsa in the second round at 1:55 of their scheduled four-round super welterweight bout, securing an early TKO victory.
