Santiago City in Veraguas, Panama, hosts a historic WBA world championship night By Gabriel F. Cordero PhilBoxing.com Thu, 30 Oct 2025 ![]() Panamanian heroine and world champion Nataly Delgado (18-7-2, 5 KOs) will defend her WBA interim super flyweight world title for the first time against Venezuelan challenger Yoselin Fernandez (16-7, 9 KOs) at an event called Boxing Challenge Championship Night next Saturday, December 6, at the Villa Magna Ballroom of the Gran David Hotel in Santiago, Veraguas, Panama. The event, organized by Nación Boxeo in conjunction with High Level Boxing, will be a historic night, marking the first time a world championship boxing match has been held in the modern city of Santiago and the rest of the country since the first world championship fight 60 years ago on April 10, 1965, between two legends: Ismael Laguna of Panama and Carlos Ortiz of Puerto Rico at the Juan Demóstenes Arosemena Olympic Stadium in Panama City. The first title defense of the charismatic Panamanian athlete was announced this Wednesday, October 29th, at a luxurious restaurant on Panama City's exclusive coastal strip. Among those present were Jimmy Salas, president of the Panama Boxing Commission; Roberto Mora of High Level Boxing; Eric Jaén, mayor of Santiago; David Virzi, one of the country's most prominent businessmen; and Alfredo Mendoza, a young candidate for future WBA president and currently serving as Vice President of WBA FEDELATIN.
