LIGHT ANDY CRUZ W TKO 5 HIRONORI MISHIRO. HEAVY: TEREMOANA TEREMOANA W TKO 1 ALEEM WHITFIELD. ![]() New Yorker HITCHINS (20-0) retains the IBF title as he halts former champion KAMBOSOS (22-4) in the eighth round. Hitchins was in charge from the start. He had his jab working strongly in the first round making good use of his much longer reach to score at distance and finding gaps for his rights. His left hand work in the second, jabs and hooks, caused a small cut under Kambosos’ right eye. Hitchins continued to spear Kambosos with jabs and straight rights with Kambosos having no answer to Hitchins’ domination. Hitchins continued to pump out jabs over the third and fourth and in a sign of things to come had Kambosos hurt and turning away after a wicked left hook to the body. Hitchins attacked hard but missed the chance to end the fight then. Kambosos had some success in the sixth and seventh but Hitchins continued to score heavily in both rounds. In the eighth another left hook to the body sent Kambosos down in agony and the referee stopped the fight. Hitchins was making the first defence of the title and gets his eighth win by KO/TKO. He has Haitian antecedents and represented Haiti at the Rio Olympics. He announced he is now a free agent which open the door to a chance of a unification fight against any of the other title holders. Kambosos has won only two of his six fights since winning the IBF/WBA and WBO titles from Teofimo Lopez in 2021. ![]() CUBAN CRUZ (6-0) stops an outclassed MISHIRO (17-2-1) in the fifth round of an IBF eliminator. The first round saw Cruz quickly into his stride finding the target with lightning-fast jabs and accurate rights. The round was not all Cruz as Mishiro connected with a right that stopped Cruz in his tracks. Cruz stepped up the pace in the second and it was obvious that Cruz had the faster hands and higher level of accuracy and he was landing some hefty combinations. Cruz came close to finishing the job in the third. He floored Mishiro with a right and after Mishiro beat the count Cruz unleashed a savage attack firing combinations with blistering speed looking to end the fight. As in the first Mishiro bought himself some time with a right counter that caused Cruz to pause his assault but a right dropped Mishiro just before the bell. Mishiro made it to his feet and made it to the bell. Mishiro survived a torrid fourth as Cruz blasted him with eye-catching shots and Mishiro had to pass a doctor’s examination before the start of the fifth. Cruz drove home neck-snapping jabs and rocked Mishiro with a right and then unleashed a series of punches that had Mishiro reeling and the referee stopped the fight. Cruz can now move into the No 1 spot in the IBF ratings making him the mandatory challenger to champion Ray Muratalla. He is also No 1 with the WBC so has options. ![]() Australian heavyweight TEREMOANA (8-0) wipes out another opponent in quick time as WHITFIELD (9-1). is blasted out in the first round. The 6’0-“ tall 35-year-old Whitfield never had a chance against the hard-punching 6’6” Teremoana. He was forced across the ring with jabs and then a right uppercut and a left sent him into a corner and Teremoana landed a left and a right before the referee jumped in to stop the fight. Teremoana had scored six first round stoppages and taken less than 10 rounds for his eight wins. No one wants to rush him but he will learn nothing from mismatches such as this. JUNE 12 BRON, FRANCE: CRUISER: LEONARDO MOSQUEA W TKO 9 IVAN GARCIA. Former undefeated European champion MOSQUEA (17-1)collects the vacant WBA International title with a win over Argentinian GARCIA (10-4-1). It did not look much of a test for Mosquea and after a close first round he dropped Garcia in the second when both landed simultaneously and Mosquea was himself shaken. Garcia fought back hard and Mosquea was badly rocked in the fourth as the fight turned into an exciting battle. Garcia began to tire from late in the sixth and although he continued to fight hard he was exhausted by the end of the eighth and did not answer to the bell for the ninth. Dominican Republic-born Mosquea had beaten Cheavon Clarke in December and is No 3 with the WBA. Champion Gilberto Ramirez will defend against No 1 Yuniel Dorticos on 28 June and Mosquea is hoping to land a shot at the winner. Garcia had lost on a fifth round stoppage against 6-0-1 Kevin Rodriguez in June so Mosquea should not have had as much trouble in this fight. JAMESTOWN, CA, USA: LIGHT: GABRIEL FLORES Jr W PTS 10 CHRISTIAN VILLALBA . FLORES (27-2) scores two knockdowns on his way to a unanimous decision over previously unbeaten VILLALBA (15-1-2). Flores used his better skills to outbox Villalba but despite the two knockdowns never really looked like adding to his 8 wins by KO/TKO. Scores 99-89 twice and 100-88. Flores is No 3 with the WBO and with No 1 Sam Noakes and No 2 Abdullah Mason to fight for the vacant title a title shot later in the year is possible for Flores. JUNE 13 BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA: LIGHT: LAZARO ALVAREZ W TKO 4 JOSE MUNOZ . SUPER FEATHER: ENZO DELGADO W TKO 8 EZEQUIEL PALAVERSIC. SUPER FEATHER: ERISLANDY ALVAREZ W PTS 10 EDUARDO COSTA DO NASCIMENTO . SUPER WELTER: DIEGO CHAVES DREW 10 JUAN UBARNES . FEATHER: HAMSAT SHADALOV W PTS 10 LAZARO ESCOBAR. FLY: ALDANA LOPEZ W PTS 10 OLGA JULIO . ALVAREZ (8-0) blasts out Colombian MUNOZ (17-4) in four rounds. The Cuban southpaw scored heavily over the first three rounds then ended the contest in the fourth. A right to the head dropped Munoz. He beat the count and tried to take the fight to Alvarez but a left hook to the body put Munoz down again. He got up but another burst of punches from Alvarez saw the fight stopped. Alvarez was defending the WBA Continental Americas title. He is a three-time World Championships gold medallist and twice won a bronze medal at the Olympic Games. He is reported as having a 221-37 record as an amateur. Two of Munoz’s losses have come in Russia and he lost to Erislandy Alvarez in the IBA pro tournaments DELGADO (12-0-1) won this all-Argentine clash with an eighth round stoppage of PALAVERSIC (9-4-1). Southpaw Delgado just had the better technical skills and punched too hard for the very limited Palaversic. Delgado won every round before flooring Palaversic in the eighth with the fight being stopped. Sixth win by KO/TKO for Delgado. Palaversic was a late substitute and suffered his second inside the distance defeat. Paris Olympics gold medallist ALVAREZ (5-0) retains the WBA Continental Americas title with a wide unanimous victory over DO NASCIMENTO (12-5) Alvarez was in another class altogether than the limited and crude Brazilian Do Nascimento. The Cuban was too quick, too clever and too experienced and almost floored Do Nascimento in the first. Alvarez was able to hand out steady punishment both at distance and in close. Do Nascimento’s tactics consisted of driving forward throwing punches and then holding to smother Alvarez work. That led to too much clinching and not enough open action. Other that brief moment in the first round Alvarez never really looked like finishing the fight early and it was not an impressive performance from Alvarez who won on scores of 99-91 twice and 100-900. Brazilian champion Do Nascimento was bloody, bruised and cut but can still boast of never losing inside the distance. CHAVES (30-11-2) and UBARNES (10-2-2) ended all even in a fight for the vacant WBA Fedelatin belt. Colombian Ubarnes made a good start but as rounds passed the better boxing and experience of Chaves gave him the edge. It was mainly a close-quarters hard-fought battle with Chaves, 39, generally getting the better of the exchanges but the judges scored it 97-93 for Chaves, 96-95 for Ubarnes and 95-95. Chaves failed to make the weight so the title was only on the line for Ubarnes Chechen-born German SHADALOV 11-0) comfortably outpoints overmatched Argentinian prelim fighter ESCOBAR (6-3). Shadalov had the superior skills and outboxed Escobar from the start. Shadalov showcased his speed and accuracy but also revealed his lack of power as he never had Escobar in any trouble, Scores 100-90 twice and 97-93 for Shadalov who wins the vacant WBA Fedelatin title. Shadalov represented Germany at the Tokyo Olympics and scored wins over Raymond Ford and Robeisy Ramirez as an amateur LOPEZ (13-0) adds another belt to her collection as she scores a unanimous points decision over Colombian JULIO (40-19-3) to win the vacant WBA Fedelatin title. Lopez boxed her way to victory in this one. She dominated when she could box on the outside using long jabs and right counters against southpaw Julio. The Colombian did her best work early in the fight when she could get inside and make the fight a brawl but at 39 and after over 60 fights the fast pace that Lopez set saw Julio tire over the late rounds and Lopez won on scores of 97-93 twice and 95-94. Lopez had already won the WBA Fedelatin light flyweight title and both the Argentinian and South American light flyweight titles. Julio first fought for a world title back in 2011 and was 14-0-1 going into this fight. ACCRA, GHANA: BANTAM: THEOPHILOUS ALLOTEY W PTS 12 DANIEL GORSH. BRIDGERWEIGHT: ANDREW TABITI W TKO 4 JACOB DICKSON. WELTER: OHARA DAVIES W PTS 8 MOHAMMED ALISENI: CRUISER: AHMED ABDULA W PTS 10 HARUNA MOHAMMED. FEATHER: ABDUL KHAN W TKO ? JOSEPH SACKEY. ALLOTEY (11-0) wins the WBO Arican title with a unanimous decision over previously unbeaten champion GORSH (15-1). It was expected to be a close fight but Allotey boxed brilliantly on the back foot and was a good winner. Scores. 118-110 twice and 117-111. The 22-year-old Allotey failed in his attempt to qualify for the Paris Olympics and turned professional. TABITI (22-2) much too good for inexperienced Ghanaian DICKSON (14-2). Tabiti floored Dickson three times before the fight was stopped. He reportedly won the inaugural WBC African Bridgerweight title. DAVIES(26-4) got in some ring time as he was taken the distance by Tanzanian ALISENI (22-10-3) in winning the unanimous decision. Scores 79-72 twice and 78-73 ABDULA (9-0) ,won the Ghanaian belt as he outpointed reigning champion MOHAMMED (5-2). Abdula floored Mohammed in the third and won on scores of 97-92 twice and 96-93. Mohammed was defending the title for the first time. PHILADELPHIA, PA, USA: SUPER FLY: LeANNA CRUZ W PTS 10 REGINA CHAVEZ . SUPER LIGHT: ISRAEL MERCADO W PTS 10 BRANDEN PIZARRO. SUPER LIGHT: KURT SCOBY W RTD 6 HASKELL RHODES . WELTER: TAHMIR SMALLS W KO 2 CLARENCE BOOTH . CRUZ (11-0-1 ND) overcomes a first round knockdown to outpointing CHAVEZ (8-6-3). A frantic first round had Chavez surging forward and Cruz firing hard counters. Both landed some good shots and just before the bell Chavez landed a left/right combination the sent Cruz down with the bell going on completion of the count. Cruz had blood seeping from her nose and seemed to injure her knee. In the second round, The fast pace continued with Chavez marching forward but Cruz was refusing to be backed up and was targeting Chavez with hooks to the body from both hands. The greater strength of Cruz began to tell as she forced Chavez onto the back foot but Chavez kept banging back to make the rounds close. Neither was bothering with defence and were wide open so there were some brutal; exchanges. Cruz continued to bleed heavily from the nose but Chavez slowed as a result if the body attacks from Cruz and the stronger finish from Cruz earned her the decision but it was close. Scores 97-92, 96-93 and 95-94 for Cruz. She wins the WBA Continental Americas title in her first ten round fight. Mexican Chavez, 21, has lost twice in shots at the WBA super flyweight title. MERCADO (13-1-2) wins the NABA title with a majority decision over champion PIZARRO (20-2-1), Mercado outworked Pizarro over the first two rounds taking the fight to Pizarro who had slight advantages in height and reach. Pizarro had more success over the third creating some space for counters but Mercado kept up the pressure over the middle rounds forcing Pizarro to fight his fight and Pizarro just could not get on the front foot. The pattern to the fight did not vary much. The higher work rate and pressure from Mercado against the better skills of Pizarro with the constant pressure winning out as Mercado pushed harder and harder over the ninth and tenth to make the decision his. Scores 97-93 and 96-94 for Mercado and 95-95. Californian Mercado was in his first ten round fight and with Pizarro No 13 with the WBA a big win for him. Pizarro had a 12-0-1 run going in. SCOBY (17-1) outboxed RHODES (31-7-1) over the first two rounds and then sent Rhodes down with a right to the head with just seconds remaining in the third. Scoby won the fourth and fifth but Rhodes was competitive showing the skills that marked him as a prospect early in his career. Scoby’s power prevailed and he floored Rhodes with a series of rights late in the sixth and Rhodes did not come out for the seventh. Now 12 inside the distance victories in his last 13 fights for Scoby. His footwork is not great but he has plenty of power Rhodes, 37, was 23-0 at one time and still has some smart moves but is long past his best. SMALLS (15-0) racks up another win. Smart jabbing blunted attempts by BOOTH (21-12) to get inside in the first. Booth was coming forward trying to get inside but was under fire at the end of the round. A straight right from Smalls dropped Booth in the second. He was up quickly but immediately went down again before a punch was thrown and was counted out. Tenth win by KO/TKO for Smalls and 8 such wins in his last 9 outings. JUNE 14 BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA: BANTAM: NONITO DONAIRE W TEC DEC 9 ANDRES CAMPOS . ![]() DONAIRE (43-8)makes a triumphant return to the ring as he wins the interim WBA title with a unanimous technical decision over Chilean CAMPOS (17-3-1). The fight started badly. Donaire was boxing southpaw but after a couple of head clashes had Donaire sporting a swelling by his right eye and he changed to orthodox. Donaire was making use of his height and longer reach to control the fight at distance and scoring with quick combinations switching his shots to head and body. Campos had some success in the forth but it was brief. Donaire’s hand speed and accuracy gave Campos no chance of making an impact in the fight. A clash of heads in the sixth brought a short pause in the action but again there was no cut. Donaire continued to both outscore Campos at distance and inside and he had Campos hurt by a body shot in the seventh. A desperate Campos tried some rough stuff in the eighth shoving Donaire down to the canvas. A clash od heads in the ninth saw Donaire cut over his right eye and between the swelling that had started early and the cut Donaire’s vision was impaired and the fight was stopped and was decided on the cards with Donaire winning on scores of 87-84 twice and 88-83. Donaire, 42, was having is first fight for almost two years and is now in line to fight the winner of the fight between WBA champion Antoinio Vargas and Daigo Higa in July. LOUVAIN LA NEUVE, BELGIUM: BRIDGER: RYAD MERHY W RTD 4 ANDREJ PESIC . SUPER FEATHER: MIKO KHATCHATRYAN W PTS 8 MAIKOL BEAUMONT . SUPER LIGHT: ANTOINE VANACKERE W TKO 1 ANTONIO GUZMAN . MERHY (34-3) wins the vacant WBC Silver Bridgerweight title as he beats PESIC (15-4-1) in four rounds. Merhy shook Pesic in the first and outscored him in the second and third. A left hook to the head floored Pesic in the fourth and a bod punch put him down for a second time. Pesic only just beat the count and did not come out for the fifth. The plan now is for Merhy to fight either WBC champion Kevin Lerena, who beat Merhy for the title in 2023, or the interim title holder Krzysztof Wlodarczyk. Pesic had lost to Serhiy Radchenko in his last fight in August. Fighting in his home city KHATCHATRYAN (20-1) scores a unanimous decision over Venezuelan BEAUMONT(19-9-1). Khatchatryan had things well in hand most of the way. It was only in the third that he was buzzed by a right but he recovered and won on scores of 79-73, 78-74 and 78-75. Khatchatryan’s defeat came back in 2021 when he lost a wide unanimous decision against Joe Cordina and this is his seventh win since then. VANACKERE (25-1) blows away the 6” smaller Venezuelan GUZMAN (25-6) in the first round. Southpaw Vanackere has racked up 17 wins in a row but avoided any real tests. Five of Guzman’s six losses have come inside the distance. COPENHAGEN, DENMARK: SUPER MIDDLE: OLIVER ZAREN W PTS 10 JOSEPH MAIGWISYA . ZAREN (17-0) comfortably outpoints Tanzanian MAIGWISYA (14-4). Southpaw Zaren edged a quiet first round and then outboxed the limited Maigwisya. Zaren hardly needed to get out of third gear. He floored Maigwisya in the seventh but let Maigwisya off the hook. He paid for that when a clash of heads opened a cut over the Dane’s right eye. He had Maigwisya badly shaken in the tenth but had to settle for a points win. Scores 100-88, 100-89 and 99-90 ANNECY, FRANCE: LIGHT FLY: ROMANE MOULAI W PTS 10 SILVIA TORRES . LIGHT: GIUSEPPE OSNATO W PTS 10 MEHDI GHOUALEM . MIDDLE: MILAN PRAT W TKO 8 OZIEL SANTOYO . MIDDLE: MICHEL SORO W TKO 4 ASIS RODRIGUEZ. MOULAI (6-0) wins the vacant IBO title as she takes a unanimous decision over experienced Mexican TORRES (22-4-3). Moulai won on scores of 98-92, 97-93 and 96-94. Moulai’s record is misleading as she has considerable amateur experience behind her. Torres is a former WBA interim champion. Italian OSNATO (12-1) wins the vacant IBO Mediterranean title with a split verdict over Frenchman GHOUALEM (11-1). This was a fast-paced competitive bout. Osnato forged forward throughout the fight taking the fight to fellow-southpaw Ghoualem who was forced to box on the back foot using strong double jabs and left hand counters. It really was close all the way but Osnato’s swarming attacks just gave him the edge. Scores 96-94 twice for Osnato and 96-94 for Ghoualem. PRAT (27-1) keeps busy with an eighth round points victory over Mexican SANTOYO (19-5-1). Prat dominated the one-sided action with Santoyo lacking the power to be competitive. Santoyo absorbed plenty of punishment and was dropped by a heavy right and the fight was stopped. Second fight in four weeks for Prat. SORO ( 37-4-2) returns with a win as he stops Mexican RODRIGUEZ (17-3) in four rounds. In his first fight for a year Soro handed out a steady beating to Rodriguez. The visitor spent most of the fight against the ropes with Soro landing hooks from both hands. Soro forced Rodriguez to a corner and unloaded punches until a body shot made Rodriguez slump to the floor. He got up but was in no condition to continue. Soro, 37, a former European champion and WBA interim title holder, is hoping to make one more run at a title fight. ULM, GERMANY: SUPER MIDDLE: SIMON ZACHENHUBER W TKO 1 LEONARDO DI STEFANO . ZACHENHUBER (27-0) scores a first round one punch win over Spaniard DI STEFANO (16-5). As Di Stefano came forward throwing a wild right southpaw Zachenhuber met him with a short left that had Di Stefano lurching forward and falling face down on the canvas. He struggled to his feet but was stumbling and the referee made a good stoppage. Seventeenth inside the distance victory for the IBF No 10 HERMOSILLO, MEXICO: BANTAM: JUAN FRANCISCO ESTRADA W PTS KARIM ARCE : ATOM: CAMILA ZAMORANO W PTS 10 MIKA IWAKAWA . SUPER LIGHT: JOSE LUIS VAZQUEZ W PTS 8 ALEXIS de la CRUZ. ESTRADA(45-4) outpoints a brave ARCE (21-3-2). Estrada took charge in the first round with Arce stuck on the end of Estrada’s jab and when Arce did throw himself forward trying to get inside walked onto counters. Arce tried some overhand rights in the second but then Estrada found the target with rights of his own and then landed a left to the body which had Arce creasing up in agony and another left to the body dropped him to his hands and knees. He only just made it to his feet at nine and the bell saved him. Estrada continued to attack Arce’s body with Arce refusing to buckle and fighting back even having an edge in the fifth and making the eighth and ninth close. Arce was taking the fight to Estrada in the tenth but was floored by a right hook. He got up at nine and tried to run and hold but went down again under a series of punches. Once again he beat the count and survived the remaining seconds. Estrada won on scores of 100-87, 99-88 and 98-89. First fight for Estrada since suffering a seventh round kayo loss against Jesse Rodriguez which cost Estrada his WBC super flyweight title. This was only the second fight for Arce in almost three years but he showed here he can still compete at a high level. A new star is born as 17-year-old Mexican ZAMORANO (12-0) outpoints IWAKAWA(13-8-1) to win the vacant WBC title. Zamorano controlled the fight from the centre of the ring and used her faster hands to constantly spear Iwakawa with jabs and to bang home straight rights. As Zamorano’s confidence grew she was stringing together multi-punch combinations. Iwakawa had some success over the middle rounds but tired late as her much younger opponent stood the pace better. Zamorano won on scores of 100-90 twice and 98-92. VAZQUEZ (19-0) remains unbeaten but only just as he beats DE LE CRUZ (9-6-2) on a majority decision. de la Cruz made Vazquez fight hard but the longer reach and better boxing saw Vazquez deserve the decision. No scores available. BILBAO, SPAIN: SUPER LIGHT: JON FERNANDEZ W DISQ 3 RICARDO NUNEZ . SUPER LIGHT: ANDER AMATRIAIN W KO 10 SAUL LUNA. FERNANDEZ (27-3) wins the vacant WBC International Silver title with a disqualification win over Panamanian NUNEZ (26-7). Fernandez made a good start using his edges in height and reach to scorer with jabs but pressure from Nunez was making the second much closer until Fernandfez dropped Nunez with a right. Nunez saw out the round and they traded punches at the start of the third and then chaos took over. As they were fighting inside the referee called for them to break. Nunez landed two punches whilst still holding Fernandez. One punch ripped a cut on Fernandez right ear and the referee disqualified Nunez. Unfortunately the announcer declared the disqualification coming from a non-existing butt and the Panamanian’s team protested until the referrer advised the disqualification had been for the two punches on the break. Fernandez has lost important fights against O’Shaquie Foster, Michel Rivera and Samuel Molina. Nunez had registered victories over Pablo Vicente and Jezzrel Corrales and blew his No 2 rating with the WBC. AMATRIAIN (11-1-1) wins the vacant Spanish title with last round kayo of LUNA (9-3-1) and goes 2-0-1 ahead in their series of fights. Southpaw Luna went in front over the first four rounds boxing well and flooring Amatriain in the fourth. Amatriain began to roll from the fifth slowing Luna with some strength-sapping body punches. By the end of the ninth two judges had it 85-85 and the third 86-84 for Luna. Luna had nothing left in the tank. He was knocked down in the tenth and was unable to beat the count. Amatriain had outpointed Luna over six rounds in 2021 and their fight for the vacant title in March ended in a technical draw. OBSERVATIONS : Nonito Donaire returns with a win. All very well but the event showcased some typical WBA manipulation. You have champion Antonio Vargas, who did not win the title in the ring but was boosted up from interim champion, Donaire who jumped into the WBA ratings in April at No 5 despite not having fought for almost two years and not having won a fight for over three years and his opponent in the fight for the interim WBA title unrated Andres Campos suddenly appearing at No 5 bantamweight in their May ratings after winning a fight at super fly over a guy with a 12-7-1 record. Boxers get younger and younger. Mexican Camila Zamorano is just 17 and won the WBC Atom title by beating 41-year-old Mika Iwakawa. The Japanese fighter had turned professional when Zamorano was only three years old. Long unbeaten runs in boxing are nothing new but neither are long losing streaks. You can’t have winners if you don’t have losers. It must have been a sad day for matchmakers when Italian Giuseppe Rauseo (3-86-3) decided to have one last fight and then retire. There was a bit of a fairytale ending for Giuseppe as after 75 losses in a row he went out on a high note with a win. Of his 86 losses only three came inside the distance earning a gold medal entry into the club of gallant losers. Best of luck in the future Giuseppe.
