THE PAST WEEK IN ACTION 19 May 2025: Sam Goodman, Carlos Cuadras, Dave Allen Register Wins By Eric Armit PhilBoxing.com Tue, 20 May 2025 ![]() HIGHLIGHTS -IBF No 1 super bantamweight Sam Goodman returns with a win as he outpoints Cesar Vaca -Former WBC super flyweight title holder Carlos Cuadras outpoints Luis Guzman - Kieron Conway stops Gerome Warburton in Commonwealth middleweight title defence and also collects vacant British title and Dave Allen stops John Fisher in five rounds -Serhii Bohachuk outpoints Mykal Fox -Tony Yoka and Milan Prat score wins in Paris -Argentinian super bantamweight Ckari Cani Mansilla shocks IBF No 12 Dylan Price with an eighth round kayo. MAY 14 SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA: FEATHER: SAM GOODMAN W PTS 10 CESAR VACA. Light: HARRY GARSIDE W TKO 5 CHARLIE BELL. HEAVY: STEVAN IVIC W PTS 10 TOESE VOUSIUTU. SAM GOODMAN (20-0) returns with a points win over Mexican CESAR VACA (19-2-1). Godman puts six months of frustration behind him as he outpoints willing but limited Vaca. Over the first half of the fight Goodman outboxed and was busier than Vaca building a substantial lead. Vaca stepped up his pace over the closing rounds and opened a cut under Goodman’s left eye with a punch in the eighth which gave the Mexican a lift. Vaca was switching guards and pressing hard and a clash of heads opened a cut over Goodman’s right eye in the ninth but Goodman is familiar with cuts and boxed cooly to ease his way to victory over the tenth. Scores 100-90, 99-91 and 99-92. Goodman outpointed Ra’eese Aleem in an IBF eliminator for the No 1 spot in the IBF super bantamweights in June 2023 then stood aside so that champion Marlon Tapales could face Naoya Inoue in a unifier. Inoue won and made two defences before a defence against Goodman was set for December but that was postponed twice due to cuts to Goodman’s left eyebrow which required surgery. With Inoue now seemingly set to face WBA interim champion Murodjon Akhmadaliev in September, and then possibly Junto Nakatani, Goodman might be able to celebrate his third year as No 1. Vaca had lost his unbeaten tag against fellow-Mexican Eric Robles in December 2023 but had won his last three. GARSIDE vs. BELL Southpaw light heavyweight HARRY GARSIDE(4-0) returns with a win over a game CHARLIE BELL (5-2). Both fighters were cut in a clash of heads in the first round withGarside suffering a bad cut over his left eye. Garside was unperturbed and had too much skill and speed for Bell putting together some flashing combinations and clearly winning the five rounds of action. In the interval between the fifth and sixth the referee walked over to Bell’s corner and announced he was stopping the fight. It looked a very premature decision. Garside won a gold medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games and a bronze medal at the at the 2020 Olympics. He had three fights as a professional but then returned to the amateurs for three years to focus on the 2024 Olympics but failed to medal in Paris. The next big name in Australian boxing? STEVAN IVIC (7-0-1) retains the Australian heavyweight title with a unanimous decision over TOESE VOUSIUTU (8-2) in the fight of the night. After a slow couple of rounds Ivic took over and dropped Vousiutu in the sixth. It looked as though a stoppage was on the cards but Vousiutu launched furious onslaughts over the seventh and eighth shaking Ivic and they just pounded each other through the ninth. The tenth saw Vousiutu landing a series of heavy rights to clearly take the round but it was not enough to overcome Ivic’s lead. Ivic won on scores of 96-93 twice and 96-94 in his first title defence. A total war. MAY 16 TEXCOCO, MEXICO: FLY: CARLOS CUADRAS W PTS 10 LUIS GUZMAN. BANTAM: ALEJANDRO GONZALEZ W TKO 3 JUAN HERNANDEZ. SUPER BANTAM: JOSE SALAS W PTS 8 ARTURO HERNANDEZ . CARLOS CUADRAS(44-5-1) kept his faint hopes of another title fight alive with a points win over LUIS GUZMAN(12-6). The former WBC super flyweight champion Cuadras made a slow start and Guzman pressed hard and landed heavily over the first two rounds. Cuadras started to roll from the third upping his work rate, using plenty of smart upper body movement to dodge Guzman’s attacks and putting together some impressive combinations. Guzman continued to compete hard but the speed and accuracy of the punches from Cuadras gradually weakened him as Cuadras dominated the second half of the fight and won on scores of 96-94 twice and 98-92. Cuadras, 36, was a member of the “Fantastic Four” super flyweights scoring a win over Srisaket Sor Rungvisai but losing to Roman Gonzalez and twice against Juan Francisco Estrada. ALEJANDRO GONZALEZ (19-6-3)wins the vacant WBC Silver bantamweight title with a third round stoppage of former WBC flyweight champion JUAN HERNANDEZ (38-6). A left hook floored Hernandez in the third and after two more knockdowns the referee stopped the fight. Eleventh victory by KO/TKO for Gonzalez. Hernandez, 38, lost the WBC title on the scales back in 2017 and this is only his seventh fight in the past eight years. Rated southpaw JOSE SALAS (16-0) keeps busy with a points win over ARTURO HERNANDEZ (10-7). Salas won non scores of 78-74, 78-74 and 77-75. Derby, England: Super Bantam: CKARI CANI MANSILLA W KO 8 DYLAN PRICE. Argentinian CKARI CANI MANSILLA (18-4) springs a big surprise as he knocks out heavy favourite IBF No 12 super bantamweight DYLAN PRICE(19-1) in the eighth round. Price dominated the action over the early rounds. He had the better skills, quicker hands and was switching stances effortlessly. Mansilla had some success with rights in the sixth but Price was back in charge connecting with body punches in the seventh. In the eighth, in the orthodox stance, Price shaped to throw a right but let his left drop and Mansilla drove home a straight right to Pricer’s head. The punch sent Price down flat on his back. He managed to drag himself upright just as the referee completed the ten count. Mansilla did not look a danger being 2-2 in his previous 4 fights and only No 5 in the Argentinian ratings but this win will put up his asking price for future fights. A crushing loss for Price but at 26 he has time to rebuild his confidence. MAY 17 LONDON, ENGLAND: MIDDLE: KIERON CONWAY W TKO 4 GEROME WARBURTON . HEAVY: DAVE ALLEN W TKO 5 JOHN FISHER . MIDDLE: GEORGE LIDDARD W TKO 5 AARON SUTTON . MIDDLE: JIMMY SAINS W PTS 10 GIDEON ONYENANI . CRUISER: JOHN HEDGES W PTS 10 NATHEN QUARLESS . KIERON CONWAY (23-3-1) retains the Commonwealth title and wins the vacant British title with a fourth round stoppage of GEROME WARBURTON (15-2-2). Warburton was full of aggression over the first two rounds coming forward pumping out right jabs and straight lefts. Conway was forced onto the back foot and being outworked but covered up well and was firing counter hooks from both hands. It was all close-quarters action in the third and now Warburton was being forced back by the strong attacks of Conway who landed two left hooks at the bell. Warburton was moving forward firing jabs in the fourth but he backed off after a hard left hook to the body from Conway. It was all body punches from Conway now . He banged a left hook into Warburton’s body and Warburton dipped as if about to go down. Conway paused his attack but Warburton bobbed up again and as Conway unloaded punches on Warburton the towel came in from Warburton’s corner. First defence of the Commonwealth belt and seventh inside the distance victory for an impressive Conway. Warburton was 7-0-1 in his last 8 fights. DAVE ALLEN (24-7-2) scores a crushing fifth round win over previously unbeaten JOHN FISHER (13-1) The first round saw Fisher retreating around the ring using his longer reach to probe with jabs and looking to fire rights with Allen edging forward not able to close Fisher down and missing with some wild swipes. It was the same in the second. Fisher threw a few rights and landed a left hook and Allen connected with some jabs to the body but there had been no fireworks. There was a brief exchange of punches in the third when Allen crowded Fisher to the ropes but other than that Fisher was moving and probing and Allen padding after him. A huge left hook from Allen flew past Fisher’s chin and he was given a stern warning for a low punch but landed a good left hook to the body. A low action fourth saw Allen managing to manoeuvre Fisher to the ropes a few times but neither fighter landed anything of note. Late in the fifth Allen connected with a left to the body and a right to the head backing Fisher to a corner. Allen then landed three head punches that sent Fisher to his knees. Fisher was up at eight but Allen took him to the ropes and connected with three hooks to the head that sent Fisher crashing face down to the canvas and the referee immediately waived the fight over. Allen keeps getting written off but somehow always rebounds. Fisher’s limitations were evident. The power punching of unbeaten GEORGE LIDDARD (12-0) proves too much for AARON SUTTON (19-2) and the fight is stopped in the fifth round. Liddard made an impressive start sending Sutton back and down with a left jab early in the first. Sutton made it to his feet and although Liddard had the superior power Sutton traded punches later in the round. A huge overhand right from Liddard put Sutton down again in the second. After the count Sutton soaked up more punishment but fought back and made it to the bell. Liddard landed fierce rights in the third and fourth with a gutsy Sutton still willing to trade punches. Sutton jabbed and moved in the fifth and was doing well. He then stood and traded punches and again a right floored him. When he got up he shook his head and walked away indicating he was done for the night. Liddard, 22, gets his seventh inside the distance victory. Sutton had lost a split decision against Gerome Warburton in a British title eliminator last year. Sains vs. Onyenani Southpaw JIMMY SAINS (10-0) wins a wide unanimous decision over GIDEON ONYENANI (7-5) to collect the vacant BBB of C Southern Area title. Scores 100-90, 100-91 and 98-92. Sains had won his previous nine fights by KO/TKO. First inside the distance defeat for Onyenani. Former top amateur JOHN HEDGES (11-0) took a wide unanimous decision over NATHEN QUARLESS (13-2). The 6’6” southpaw won on scores of 99-92, 98-9 and 97-93. This fight was for the vacant English title. Quarless had lost on points to Vidal Riley for this title in 2023. COMMERCE, CA, USA: SUPER WELTER: SERHII BOHACHUK W PTS 10 MYKAL FOX . FEATHER: OMAR TRINIDAD W PTS 10 ALEXANDER ESPINOZA . SUPER FLY: MIZUKI HIRUTA W PTS 10 CARLA MERINO. SERHII BOHACHUK (26-2) takes a unanimous decision over MYKAL FOX (24-5). With the tall Fox relying on his height and long reach to score this was going to be a chase for Bohachuk. Fox made good use of his physical edges circling Bohachuk pinging him with jabs and skipping away from the pressure exerted by Bohachuk. The Ukrainian just kept chasing and chasing. He had very little success over the early rounds but turned up the heat over the second half of the fight. He connected with some hefty uppercuts in the sixth and made the seventh close then had success with body shots in the eighth. Fox was doing some useful scoring but not enough. Bohachuk was down in the last but it was ruled a slip and he ended the fight with a strong attack that had Fox in some trouble and won on scores of 97-93 twice and 98-92. Second win for Bohachuk since his loss to Vergil Ortiz for the interim WBC title in August. Fox is 2-4 in his last six fights. OMAR TRINIDAD (19-0-1) breezes past Nicaraguan ALEXANDER ESPINOZA (23-7-3) in defence of his WBC Continental Americas belt winning on scores of 100-90, 99-91 and 98-92. Fourth defence of the belt for IBF No 2 Trinidad. Japanese southpaw MIZUKI HIRUTA (8-0) proves just too quick and too clever for Argentinian CARLA MERINO (16-3) and retains her WBO title. Merino never solved the problem of getting past the sharp, accurate jabbing of Hiruta. The champion also put together some impressive combinations and Merino was never able to be a threat as Hiruta finished the fight strongly to win on scores of 98-92 twice and 99-91. Hiruta was making the fourth defence of the WBO belt and with her all-action style and colourful pink hair is becoming a fan favourite in Commerce. Merino came in on the back of a 13-bout winning streak but was outclassed. LONG BEACH, CA, USA: SUPER FEATHER: NATHAN DEVON RODRIGUEZ W RTD 5 CARLOS BUITRAGO . SUPER WELTER: FERNANDO VARGAS W TKO 4 GONZALO CORIA. NATHAN RODRIGUEZ (19-0) gets a win as CARLOS BUITRAGO (39-15-1) retires before the start of the sixth. After a low action first round Buitrago came to life in the second. He was giving away 6’” in height and a lot in reach but he was darting in past Rodriguez’s jab and scoring with wide hooks from both hands. When Rodriguez used his jab he found Buitrago an elusive target as the little Nicaraguan ducked and bobbed and weaved and added in a few tricks he had picked up in his 54 fights. Rodriguez stepped up the pressure in the third picking Buitrago off with his jab and occasional rights and dancing away when Buitrago launched an attack. Rodriguez kept Buitrago on the back foot in the fourth spearing him with jabs and finding the target with rights to the head and blocking or sliding away from Buitrago’s attacks. After a brief flurry of punches from Buitrago it was all Rodriguez in the fifth. Buitrago just backed up behind a high guard and it was really just target practice for Rodriguez. Buitrago did connect with one hard right but did little else and predictably just retired at the end of the round. Rodriguez, 20, gets his thirteenth inside the distance finish. Buitrago, 33, weighed 105 lbs and went 27-0-1 at the start of a career which saw him in a number of title fights but here he was 138 ½ lbs and suffered his fourth loss in his last 5 fights. FERNANDO VARGAS (17-0) comes from behind to score a dramatic fourth round win over GONZALO CORIA (23-8).Vargas was willing play the counter puncher Coria come forward and counter the Argentinians attacks. Coria had a good second round scoring with long lefts and some right hooks and applied plenty of pressure. Coria chased Vargas down hard in the third and was throwing more and landing more and looked to be in front. Coria again took the fight to Vargas in the fourth but this time Vargas stood and traded punches and landed a couple of quick combinations. Coria banged back but suddenly a left hook and a right to the head sent him stumbling back. Vargas raced after him and connected with a fierce left hook that dumped Coria on the canvas with an arm draped over the bottom rope. Coria climbed to his feet and stepped forward when asked to do so but the referee waived the fight over. Coria had come in 5lbs over the contract weight and that made for some bad blood between the fighters PARIS, FRANCE: HEAVY: TONY YOKA W PTS 10 RASLAN YALLYEV . SUPER WELTER: MILAN PRAT W TKO 5 PLACIDO RAMIREZ. TONY YOKA (14-3)delights his home fans as he boxes his way to a unanimous decision over Russian ARSLAN YALLYEV (16-1). It was a disciplined, focused performance from Yoka. After edging a close first round Yoka boxed well in the second using his longer reach to score with jabs and adding in some uppercuts and hooks. Yallyev responded well in the third jabbing strongly and landing clubbing rights. and it was good paced interesting fight. The pace dropped in the fourth but Yoka provided a good finish to the round hammering home a pair of good combinations before the bell. An uppercut from Yallyev in the fifth shook Yoka badly and Yallyev jumped on Yoka firing punches but Yoka recovered and saw out the round. Over the second half of the fight Yoka’s work rate made the difference with Yoka constantly moving forward working his jab and Yallyev fighting in spurts and having some success with rights. It was a gruelling return for Yoka and Yallyev tested his chin a few times but Yoka was a deserving winner. Scorers 98-92, 97-93, 96-94. Consecutive points defeats against Martin Bakole(majority) Carlos Takam (split) and Ryad Merhy(split) severely dented Yoka’s image and a couple of low level wins in England did nothing to change that but Yallyev was a better level of opponent. It seems that Yoka is lined up to fight on the undercard to Usyk vs. Dubois in London with French sources speculating that Joe Joyce might be the opponent. Yallyev was a very successful Thai and K1 competitor and gave Yoka a good fight. With the current glut of heavyweight he should not be short of work. MILAN PRAT (26-1) breaks down and beats Colombian PLACIDO RAMIREZ (27-5) in five rounds.Prat’s power and pressure just proved too much for a game Ramirez. By nthe fifth Ramirez had nothing left. Prat drove him to the ropes and bombarded Ramirez with punches. Initially Ramirez tried to punch back but was overwhelmed and slumped to the canvas and was counted out. After his shock loss to Slawa Spomer in 2023 Prat has put together a run of six wins. He is supposed to challenge Abass Baraou for the European title and that will be a great fight if it comes off. All five of Ramirez’s losses have come against good opposition including a third round kayo defeat against Josh Kelly. SANTO DOMINGO, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC: BANTAM: NORBELTO JIMENEZ W PTS 10 MARCELINO NIEVES . SUPER FEATHER: FELIX BATISTA W PTS 10 DIKEMBER RODRIGUEZ. Light Heavy: CRISTIAN PINALES(10) W TKO 1 REYNALDO ACEVEDO. NORBELTO JIMENEZ (35-11-6) won a controversial unanimous decision over unbeaten MARCELINO NIEVES (19-1). The fight was fiercely competitive but Jimenez used his greater experience of fighting at a much higher level to outbox Nieves and was deserving of the decision. The referee controversially deducted not one but two points from Nieves for throwing Jimenez to the floor during the fight. The outcome of the fight was then overshadowed by a disgraceful attack on the referee by supporters of Nieves who swarmed into the ring and attacked the referee. He was punched numerous times and even after climbing out of the ring he was pursued by Nievas’ supporters with chairs being thrown at him. In his long career Jimenez, 34 had two shots at the WBA super flyweight title drawing with Kohei Kono and losing on points against Khalid Yafai. Nieves was having his first fight for 18 months and has a heavily padded record. In another all-Dominican battle FELIX BATISTA (12-0) won a unanimous decision over DIKEMBER RODRIGUEZ (11-2) in their ten round fight. There was plenty of two-way action in this onefrom the start. Both had spells of dominance astheytraded shots in some fierce exchanges in every round with the judges just favouring Batista. The points win snapped a seven-bout run of inside the distance victories for Batista. Rodrigues falls to 1-2 in his last 3 fights. Dominican CRISTIAN PINALES (1-0), 24, a bronze medallist from the Paris Olympics, had his first professional fight and it lasted just 26 seconds. A right to the head sent REYNALDO ACEVEDO (2-4-1) down and although he staggered to his feet the referee stopped the fight. Pinales won a gold medal at the Central American and Caribbean Games beating Cuban Arlen Lopez in the semi-finales. BIELEFELD, GERMANY: WELTER: ILYAS CAN KALI DREW 10 EDUARDO RODRIGUEZ. LIGHT HEAVY: ROBERTO ARRIAZA (20-13) W TKO 7 EMIN ATRA. ILYAS CAN KALI (13-0-1) and Mexican EDUARDO RODRIGUEZ (13-4-2) were well matched and fought to a majority draw leaving the WBA Continental title still vacant. Scores 95-95 twice and 97-93 for Rodriguez Experienced battler ROBERTO ARRIAZA (20-13) ruined the unbeaten record of local hope EMIN ATRA (19-1) with a seventh round stoppage. Arriaza was a decent fighter at one time going 17-0 at the start of his career but then he nosedived and had lost his last ten fights going into this one. I guess it was third time unlucky for carefully protected Atra as it is only the third time he has fought an opponent with a positive record. BASSENHEIM, GERMANY: SUPER MIDDLE: JUERGEN DOBERSTEIN W PTS 12 HAMISI MAYA . JUERGEN DOBERSTEIN (33-5-1) retains the Global Boxing Council title with a comfortable unanimous decision over Tanzanian HAMISI MAYA (17-6-1). Kazakh-born Doberstein, 36, won on scores of 119-110, 119-111 and 118-110. First defence of the GBC belt for Doberstein and his seventh win in a row but whenever he tries to move up to better opposition he loses. Same for Maya . MAGDEBURG, GERMANY: CRUISER: ROMAN FRESS W PTS 10 MICHAEL SELTZ . SUPER MIDDLE: ARTUR REIS W PTS 10 MATE RUDAN. ROMAN FRESS (23-1) collects the vacant WBO Inter-Continental title as the judges turn in cards of 97-92 twice and 96-93 for Fress over MICHAEL SELTZ (13-2). Kazakh-born Fress dropped Seltz in the first landing a left hook and a straight right but Seltz survived and fought back hard. There were plenty of fierce exchanges but Fress had edges in height and reach and built a good lead. Seltz attacked hard over the ninth and tenth but Fress responded well and Seltz could not close the earlier gap. Fress had held this WBO title before but lost it to Armend Xhoxhaj in 2022. Fress had bounced back with seven wins and is No 6 with the WBO and No 7 with the IBF. Seltz was floored and stopped by David Nyika on the Usyk vs. Fury undercard in Riyadh in May last year. ARTUR REISS (15-1)wins the vacant IBF European title with a unanimous decision over Croatian MATE RUDAN(8-1). After ten blood-splattered rounds Reis won on scores of 98-92 twice and 98-93. A clash of heads in the second round saw Rudan suffer a deep cut in his hair line. It bled copiously and although Rudan was past fit to continue as the rounds went by the fighters and referee were soaked with blood. Reiss dominated the action but suffered a late scare as he was cut over his left eye in the ninth but already had the fight won by then. Reiss was knocked bout in four rounds by Osleys Iglesias in a challenge for the IBO super middle title in 2023. ABRUZZO, ITALY: SUPER LIGHT: EDOARDO D’ADDAZIO W PTS 10 MAURO LOLI. Local fighter EDOARDO D’ADDAZIO (13-0) won the vacant Italian title with a hard-fought victory over southpaw MAURO LOLI (11-8-1,1ND). Loli had only once lost inside the distance and he fought a clever tactical fight to keep it close until D’Addazio’s harder punching and strength told over the closing rounds with D’Addazio taking the decision on scores of 97-93, 97-95 and 96-95. MILAN, ITALY: MIDDLE: DARIO MORELLO W PTS 10 YASSIN HERMI . WELTER: AKREM AOUINA W PTS 10 MIRKO GEOGRAFO . DARIO MORELLO (25-1) recovers from a first round shock totake a close unanimous decision over southpaw YASSIN HERMI (15-3-1) to win the vacant Italian title. A left from Hermi sent Morello down in the opening round. Morello came though that but the early success had Hermi fired-up and Morello needed all of his considerable skills to hold off Hermi’s attacks. Morello’s solid defence and accurate countering enabled him to claw back the points from that early knockdown but Hermi remained dangerous and Morello needed a storing finish to just get the decision. Scores 96-94 twice and 95-94. Morello had been floored twice and lost on points to South African-born British fighter Luther Clay in 2019 but has rebounded with ten wins. No third time lucky for Hermi who has drawn and lost in previous shoots at the national title. Italy-based Tunisian AKREM AOUINA(13-1) made a successful first defence of the WBC International Silver title with a wide unanimous decision over fellow-Italian MIRKO GEOGRAFO (19-2-2). Geografo was unbeaten in his last 17 fights and had decisioned useful Pietro Rossetti to win the vacant EBU Silver title in October. Aouina came in on the back of victories over Rossetti and 19-0 Nicholas Esposito so it looked a very balanced match. In the end it wasn’t even close. Aouina’s superior speed and skill proved too much for Geografo to match and Aouina took the decision on scores of 98-92 twice and 98-93. After an early split decision loss in Germany Aouina has won ten in a row. LEEUWARDEN, HOLLAND: HEAVY: WILLY KYAKONYE W KO 1 WILMER VASQUEZ WILLY KYAKONYE (11-0) won the vacant WBFederation heavyweight title with a first round kayo of obese Venezuelan WILMER VASQUEZ (13-4-2). It was a travesty of a title fight as Ugandan-born Kyakonye drove Vasquez across the ring to the ropes and then connected with rights to the head as Vasquez collapsed to his knees and made no attempt to get up. The 6’6” Ugandan-born Kyakonye has won ten of his fights by KO/TKO but against sub-standard opposition so will need to face better class fighters to be taken seriously. Vasquez, 43, is 6’3” and in his previous fight in July weighed 305 ¼ lbs so Kyakonye (weighed 224 ¾ lbs in his last fight in December) was a giving away about 70 lbs. PANAMA CITY, PANAMA: SUPER BANTAM: LEONARDO CARRILLO W PTS 10 LUIS ROBLES FEATHER: HECTOR SOSA W PTS 10 LIBORIO SOLIS. LIGHT: ALFREDO SOTO W TKO 2 JOSE NUNEZ . Panama-based Colombian LEONARDO CARRILLO (20-1-1) retains the WBA Fedelatin title with unanimous decision over Mexican LUIS ROBLES (15-4-1). Fifth defence of the title for Carrillo Argentinian HECTOR SOSA (18-3) gets a unanimous decision over veteran LIBORIO SOLIS (37-8-1). Sosa, a former IBO champion, made a slow start but dictated the fight from the third round and won on scores of 97-93 twice and 99-91. Venezuelan Solis, 43, is a formerWBA super flyweight champion ALFREDO SOTO (16-1) made it a good night for Argentinian boxers as he upset the locals with a second round stoppage of previously unbeaten JOSE NUNEZ (17-1-2) to win the vacant WBA Fedelatin title. Soto, trained by former champion Pablo Chacon, dropped Nunez three times in the second round.
