Could Elorde Fighter Ali "The Carnage" Cañega Beat Kazakh Lion Ruslan Madiyev to Claim the WBA Asia Belt in Thailand? By Carlos Costa PhilBoxing.com Fri, 31 Jan 2025 BANGKOK, Thailand -- That is the question that boxing fans wonder as tall and strong Filipino Ali "The Carnage" Cañega battles heavily-bearded Kazakh Ruslan Madiyev in the main event for "The Fighter" on Saturday, February 1, in Bangkok, Thailand. Accompanied by experienced Filipino men of boxing Carl Peñalosa and Edmond Dellosa, the 27-year-old Cañega aims at using his superior height, reach and fire-power to land heavily and consistently on the tough warrior from Kazakhstan. But the aggressive come-forward Ruslan is a very hard nut to crack with very different plans on his mind. Who will prevail? Will the friendly and tattooed Pinoy Ali Canega (11-1-1, 7 KOs), from the Cucuy Elorde Gym prove to have the speed and boxing skills to dominate and outmaneuver the rugged and relentless fighter as Ruslan Madiyev? Or will it be the 32-year-old Madiyev (16-2, 6 KOs), who has most of his fights in the USA, be the one to come on top? Madiyev and Canega pose during the weighin. Boxing fans in The Philippines may watch the whole show LIVE for free from the Facebook page of "The Fighter Thailand," and the YouTube channel of "TL Boxing Promotions." The first bout starts at 2 PM Thailand Time (3 PM in the Philippines), with the Filipino fighting in the main event (the last one). A total of 9 evenly matched bouts conform the afternoon of international boxing in Thailand, including three 10-round WBA Asia title matches, a thrilling women's clash, as well as an exciting UBO World title battle. Team Canega poses with the author. Promoted by Thailand's Terry Laosuwanwat in association with Bagdaulet Turekhanov of Kazakhstan, the televised ten-rounder is supervised by Won Kim of South Korea.
