DOT, GAB join sports tourism By Lito delos Reyes PhilBoxing.com Thu, 29 Jun 2023 GAB chief Richard Clarin. THE Department of Tourism (DOT) is now in partnership with the Games and Amusements Board (GAB) with the golf, diving and the other sports tourism division. It is the newest division of DOT and GAB has agreed to discuss strategies for promoting and enhancing sports tourism in the country. “We have recognized the immense potential of professional sports as a catalyst for tourism,” said GAB Chairman Atty. Richard S. Clarin. GAB and DOT have committed to working hand in hand to harness the power of professional sports events to attract both local and international tourists. “What was discussed was good. When there are international sporting events, DOT can assist with welcoming the attendees at the airport,” said Clarin. Also present during the productive meeting were, GAB Chief of Staff Atty. Regino Mallari, Jr., GAB Chief Relations Officer Mark Rafael Fabie, GAB Boxing & Other Contact Sports Division Chief Jackie Lou Ornido, DOT Director for Film and Sports Tourism Mr. Roberto P. Alabado III, and DOT Director for Golf Tourism and Special Programs Fernando H. Uy. “So they need us as much as we need them. GAB can help DOT with information dissemination and tie ups with promoters,” said Clarin. They engaged in in-depth discussions about formulating innovative initiatives that will elevate the sports tourism experience for visitors. The focus was on developing strategies to maximize the impact of existing sporting events, conducting regular consultations, and ongoing coordination to ensure the successful implementation of the shared vision. By combining the expertise and resources of GAB and DOT, the two organizations are poised to strengthen the sports tourism industry and unlock its vast potential. “They can also tie up with tourism companies for hotel accommodations and transport service,” said Clarin. GAB and DOT will enter into a Memorandum of Understanding for mutual benefit and support with the pro events. “Packages will also be developed depending on the sporting events. Also tourism contacts can help boost/market the event so that more people can enjoy it,” said Clarin. Click here to view a list of other articles written by Lito delos Reyes. |
