 Luis Quiñones.
Colombian boxer Luis Quiñones, 25, died early this Friday morning after spending five days in a coma due to the consequences of the injuries sustained in the fight played last Saturday against his compatriot José Muñoz in an event held at the Coliseum Elías Chewgin in the city of Barranquilla for the national super light weight title of that country.
Quiñones was one of the best prospects in Latin American boxing and today Colombia is in mourning for his death.
The fight was very close and it was not until the eighth round that Quiñones collapsed after receiving a combination from Muñoz and fell badly on the canvas and that's when the alarms went off since seconds before it seemed that he could not stand.
Between struggling to decide and after being able to send him to the hospital, it was finally learned that he suffered neurological, functional and metabolic deterioration along with ischemia in the left cerebral hemisphere.
The president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, said goodbye to him like this: "It hurts a lot to see a young man full of dreams leave and with a whole future ahead of him. To the family of the Santanderean boxer Luis Quiñones: a warm hug, I am very sorry for this difficult moment."
The news has moved Colombia and thousands of voices of solidarity and condolences join in the networks and media for the relatives and close ones of Quiñonez inside and outside the country.
Quiñonez was charismatic, being an exceptional young man, disciplined and a lover of boxing in which he saw the opportunity for his life and at the same time his idol was Julio César Chávez.
After the medical procedure, which had been carried out at the General del Norte clinic, Quiñones was in an induced coma until this Friday morning the expected miracle of life vanished when the news of his death became known.
