Sons Rise - Jimuel Pacquiao and Campbell Hatton By Teodoro Medina Reynoso PhilBoxing.com Mon, 08 Aug 2022 Jimuel Pacquiao (L) pose with his mother Jinkee after winning his fight last weekend in California. This last weekend, Jimuel Pacquiao and Campbell Hatton, youthful boxing sons respectively of Filipino record eight division world champion Manny Pacquiao and British former popular two division titlist Ricky Hatton, were in the news with boxing victories that already sent some in the social media daydreaming for a future son vs son clash in the ring. Which are decidedly far off as both are just starting, with the young Pacquiao still in the amateurs and the young Hatton barely in the paid ranks. However, who can really tell? Especially in this age of so called YouTube boxing. Jimuel notched his third win in four amateur bouts in the US by unanimous decision win over American Dyan Merriken in Motebello, California with his famous mom, Jinkee and sisters Queenie and Princess Pacquiao in attendance. The 21-year-old son of boxing legend Manny Pacquiao got back on track three months after he suffered his first ring loss in the US to Chris Smith in his previous fight last May. Jimuel who is fighting at lightweight, was awarded with a WBC special amateur belt. Meanwhile, Campbell Hatton improved his professional boxing record to eight straight wins with a convincing 6 round unanimous decision over Czech journeyman Michal Dufek in another lightweight contest in Sheffield, UK. The 21-year-old son of former British legend Ricky Hatton began well but after looking likely to overwhelm Dufek early on, the fight settled into a pattern as Dufek who first fought in the UK nine years ago, took few chances. The young pair thus joins Timofey or more popularly Tim Tszyu, son of another boxing great Kostya Tzsyu (who Ricky Hatton actually fought and beat in the late 80s and Manny Pacquiao missed fighting himself by few years) who is near to vying for a world boxing championship at super welterweight. The undefeated Tszyu is challenging Jermall Charlo for his undisputed world super welterweight crown in a title bout scheduled for January 28, 2023 in a venue yet to be determined. Yet another son of past boxing legend, Conor Benn from the UK is following the footsteps of his illustrious father Nigel who was a feared world champion at super middleweight in the late 80s. Also still unbeaten, Conor is already a WBA regional champion at welterweight and has been angling for major fights in the division, including against the highly regarded Jaron Boots Ennis. The young Tszyu and Benn are also being fancied for a future possible dream match involving fighting sons of former boxing greats.
