Morris East Sees Bright Potentials for Carl Jammes Martin to Make It Big

PhilBoxing.com

Carl Martin (C).

It appears that the popularity of the youthful, good looking and very promising Ifugao ring sensation Carl Jammes Martin has reached even the shores of the so called Land of Milk and Honey, good ole US of A which is always on the look out for emerging boxing talents from anywhere.

While waiting for the next fight of his main ward, Johnriel Casimero, Morris East, the Philippines youngest world boxing champion and now a respected manager and trainer in the US based in Las Vegas, has taken notice of Martin as a potential new talent from the country for showcasing in the US.

"The kid has talent and potential and his possibilities are bright and if given the chance he would be a good prospect for future international fights especially if he can pass all hurdles," East who has eyes for spotting and nurturing ring talents, said.

East helped in developing the young Nonito Donaire and also the young Devin Haney when they were starting in boxing. Nonito went on to become multi division world champion while Haney is the current WBC lightweight champion who also now maintains a stable of fighters and is into boxing promotion with his father.

East has connections with Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Al Haymon who owns a stable of prime boxers under the Premier Boxing Champions and also with the Devin Haney Promotions, all based in Las Vegas.

East said the Mayweathers, in partnership with Al Haymon, are still the biggest in US boxing and they are always in need and on look out for fresh talents, including from overseas.

"Sayang naman ang katulad ni Carl Jammes Martin if he will get stuck in the Philippines or just Asia," East who has eyes for promising boxers, said.

East understands that Carl is not currently committed to any Philippine promoter, content only on appearing in some local boxing promotions such as those put up by Gerry Peñalosa of GerryPens. Carl's management and training has also been largely a family affair.

With his talent and potentials, East sees Martin making it big in the US as when he helped trained and advised Nonito Donaire during his heydays at flyweight, bantamweight and the super bantamweight.

With his attitude outside and comportment inside the ring, East is also confident that Carl will be liked by Floyd, Jr. who likes his fighters to be low key when out of the ring but very fierce and competitive inside of it.

"Sigurado akong magugustuhan siya ni Floyd," East said.

Martin only 21, is undefeated in 17 pro fights, 15 by knockout and has already won the Philippine bantamweight championship and other regional titles. He also holds wins over foreign foes, mostly by knockout.

Martin is eyeing the Philippine super bantamweight title next as he challenges veteran Mark Anthony Geraldo.

East said it is just natural and fine for Martin to move up in weight as "the kid is still young and growing up." Likewise, the big money fight may soon be at super bantamweight as Naoya Inoue may also move up to 122.

Meanwhile, East said he is getting updated about the training and preparations of Casimero while he is in the Philippines.

Last month, East, Casimero and Sean Gibbons representing MP Promotions reached an agreement/out of court settlement that East will remain as Casimero's legal manager until the end of their contract next year.

Casimero is scheduled to fight next in the undercard of a main event featuring Manny Pacquiao which could be versus Mikey Garcia in the Middle East, possibly Dubai.
