Pacquiao’s Possible 2020 Fight with Mayweather

PhilBoxing.com

It is no secret that Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather are big boxing superstars who have a massive fan base worldwide. The last time the two professional boxers met in a bout, Floyd Mayweather was declared the winner by unanimous decision. After the match, Mayweather announced his decision to retire from the ring effectively erasing any hopes of a re-match that would pit him against Pacquiao again. However, there are recent reports that are intimating the possibility of Pacquiao and Mayweather re-match. Floyd Mayweather hasn’t ruled out further talks with Manny Pacquiao over a possible fight as per World Boxing News.

Sean Gibbons also denies claims that Pacquiao will not be fighting again

In the latest turn of things that may make the possibility of a Pacquiao vs Mayweather fight a reality, Pacquiao’s advisor, Sean Gibbons has denied reports that were doing rounds about Pacquiao not being ready to fight once again. Gibbons said it was up to Mayweather to say if he was ready for another fight with Pacquiao.

Mayweather has however remained silent since the start of 2020. In late 2019, he had announced his desire to fight at least two times in 2020 with one possible fight a rematch with UFC star Conor McGregor. This triggered instant rumors that he could be going back for a fight against Pacquiao. This led to Saudi Arabia bidding to be given the opportunity to stage the boxing match. According to World boxing News reports, investors from Saudi Arabia were highly keen on capitalizing on the success they experienced when they staged the Anthony Joshua vs Andy Ruiz Jr 2.

Unfortunately though, troubles have since then engulfed the Middle East region since the US Army assassinated Iran’s Army commander in Iraq. Iran and Saudi Arabia have troubles with each other, and this raises serious security doubts about any chance of American sports figures exposing themselves in the region. A fight between Mayweather and Pacquiao is still possible and according to Gibbons, the possibility is all in Mayweather’s hands because Pacquiao is ready for it.

Placing bets and the possible odds on the boxing match

Boxing match betting is quite different from other sports betting and that’s what makes it more interesting. One of the most popular bookmakers that features and accepts boxing betting is William Hill. Going back to a walk in memory lane, back in the year 2014, just before the duo initially met in the biggest ever pay-per-view fight of all time, William Hill offered odds of 8/11 for the fight to be a reality. This was against even odds for the fight not to go ahead.

Mayweather (R) connects with a right at McGregor.

Later when it was clearly evident that the fight would go ahead, William Hill offered a 2/7 odds for Mayweather to win the fight. Things have greatly changed ever since Mayweather defeated Pacquiao and the fact that he has not been so active in the ring, has greatly changed the way bookmarkers will be offering odds to punters. Interestingly though, you still stand a chance to find freebets.com offers as a first time signup user from promotions offered by various bookmarkers keen on getting new users.

Possible scenario in case of a re-match between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather

Floyd Mayweather may not be the obvious favorite to win the re-match for a number of reasons. He is now quite older and if form was anything to go by, then Pacquiao would suffice over him. Floyd Mayweather hasn’t fought in a competitive boxing match since 2015 while Pacquiao has been actively fighting on the ring. This time, Mayweather chance to win a re-match would be down to just 4/9.

Pacquiao (R) defeats Keith Thurman in his last fight.

In 2017, Pacquiao stopped then WBA champion Lucas Matthysse in the 7th round after sending the Argentinian to the canvas three times. Again in January 2019, he defeated Adrian Broner and then later defeated Keith Thurman in July. All these impressive results point to a truly rejuvenated boxer who could really offer Mayweather a tough challenge. It shouldn’t be forgotten that Pacquiao was also voted the WBN fighter of the year. One thing that remains clear however is that a re-match between the two boxers would be a real thriller!
