Saudi Arabia could host the big Mayweather vs Pacquiao rematch next summer

PhilBoxing.com

If reports from the Philippines are to be believed, Floyd Mayweather is overly keen on making a comeback into the boxing ring next year. There have been talks of a massive rematch bout between the US fighter and Manny Pacquiao in the summer of 2020. In fact, going by some sources, both the parties are already in advanced talks regarding the same. Although not mentioned here in this list of top ten sports betting markets of the world, boxing attracts a great amount of betting activity from all parts of the world. The last fight between Mayweather and Pacquiao too witnessed record betting activity from both new and seasoned punters everywhere.

Both Mayweather and Pacquiao have made their intentions clear

Floyd Mayweather is keen on making a boxing return in 2020 before working with UFC President Dana White later that year. And going by the rumours, Manny Pacquiao seems like the only viable alternative right now.

The Pacman who celebrated his 41st birthday in Philippines recently, has also put many of his next year plans on hold, including expected clashes with Danny or Mikey Garcia. As a result, both Danny and Mikey Garcia have announced fights with different opponents. Although the pair is the ideal option for Pacquiao to battle with, he will now think about those two only after getting the Mayweather fight out of the way.

As per projections, Mayweather vs Pacquiao 2 is expected to rake in 3 million pay-per-view purchases. However, that will come to fruition only if the long-expected clash finally finds the light of the day.

Possible Venues.

MGM Grand in Las Vegas has been the favoured choice of everyone all along to host this legendary fight. T-Mobile Arena is another viable option if Mayweather insists on a bigger venue. The under-construction NFL stadium in Las Vegas (expected to be completed by August 2020) is also being contemplated as a potential venue for ‘MayPac 2’.

Although Sin City has been leading the way to most likely host this fight, the recent developments in, and news from Saudi Arabia, after the Anthony Joshua vs Andy Ruiz rematch, suggest otherwise.

World Boxing News (WBN) was the first one to break the news of Saudi Arabia hosting the Joshua vs Ruiz 2 bout back in Aug 2019; and going by them, Prince Mohammad Bin Salman Al Saud has strictly instructed his aids to do everything possible within their means to bring the Mayweather vs Pacquia 2 to the Kingdom.

Everyone knows that Joshua vs Ruiz 2 was a major success despite the criticism faced by Saudi Arabia for human rights violations. The fight going to the Kingdom might be the only thing that could potentially upset the American boxer. And it will not be easy for him to pass more than $ 100 million pay check, a lot higher than what Joshua made from his recent fight. The boxer recently topped the Forbes list of highest-paid athletes, and he’d definitely want to increase his earnings even more.

Easy decision for Pacquiao

Many believe that Pacquio wouldn’t need much convincing to take up the rematch offer. The current champion of the WBA welterweight category can at best make around $ 10 million by taking on the likes of Garcias, Terence Crawford, Errol Spence and Keith Thurman. Fighting Floyd Mayweather once again will see the Filipino making in excess of $50 million, if the fight happens in Las Vegas. Everything will be clear once Mayweather makes his next announcement.
