NBA -- Late surge carries Bulls over Pistons, 112-106 By Japheth Bandi PhilBoxing.com Sat, 02 Nov 2019 CHICAGO -- Nearly a year since he last played here as a Minnesota Timberwolf, Derrick Rose returned to the United Center on Friday night (Saturday morning RP time), this time a member of the Detroit Pistons. And while the teams colors have change, the love for D-Rose stayed the same. A loud ovation welcomed Rose when he entered the fray in the 6:39 mark of the opening quarter and chants of "MVP! MVP!" echoed the arena throughout the course of Rose's 25-minute appearance, The youngest to ever win the NBA MVP award, Rose was the Bulls' No.1 pick in the 2008 NBA draft. Born and raised in Englewood, just a miles from the United Center, Rose was a three-time All-Star before injuries derailed what would was shaping into a spectacular Hall-of-Fame career. Even with a rigid minutes restriction he made the most of his assigned playing time, hitting 8 of 13 field goals to score 23 points along with seven assists. "I felt the love out there," Rose told reporters after the Pistons bit the bullet with a 112-106 loss. Also getting a lot of love from the 20,671 fans in attendance was Zach LaVine, currently the Bulls' resident star. LaVine finished with 26 points, including a pair of back-to-back 3s that quelled a Pistons rally in the closing minutes. The cliffhanger arrested a three-game losing streak and Chicago improved to 2-4 in the standings. Otto Porter Jr had 22 points for Chicago and Wendell Carter added 16 and 11 boards. The Bulls, who will travel to Indiana to face the Pacers on Sunday, went 39 of 89 from the field (43.8 percent and 16 of 40 from 3-point distance. The Pistons, meanwhile, are mired in a slump, losing four of their last five assignments. Andre Drummond birted huge numbers --- 25 points and 24 rebounds --- but it wasn't enough to save a Detroit team that didn't have the services of the injured Blake Griffin (knee). The Pistons dropped to 2-4. Click here to view a list of other articles written by Japheth Bandi. |
