Kaleisha West Signs with Cota Boxing By Ryan Songalia PhilBoxing.com Thu, 31 Jan 2008 Undefeated prospect Kaleisha "Wild Wild" West has inked a deal with Manny Cota's Cota Boxing which guarantees the Filipino-American pugilist eight fights. "The new deal will finally give me the opportunity to fight fighters from around the world," West, 7-0, said. "Manny Cota is promising to fly any opponent that is willing to fight me out to one of his cards. Good publicity and marketing will take a huge role as well. Most promoters don't want to put forth any money to fly other women out to California to fight me, but Manny is promising otherwise." West, who resides in Moreno Valley, California, plans on returning to the ring in March, with plans of fighting for a title later in the year. "We want to stay much more busy. Now that we will have the expenses for opponents, things should go as planned." West is trained by her father Juan West, himself a former pro fighter in the mid-90's who amassed a record of 4-2 (1 KO). West also offered her picks for the two pending superfights in Filipino pro boxing, Marquez-Pacquiao II and Darchinyan-Gorres. "There's too many facts that Manny will result victorious. Juan hasn't looked too good his last two fights, he may be on the verge of being a shot fighter. I see Manny winning by a dominant decision. I also believe the fight will be alot similar to the Barrera-Pacquiao fight. Marquez has a similar style to Barrera." On the 115 pound clash scheduled for February 2 in Cebu City, West picked the Australia-based Armenian. I believe Darchinyan's style is too strong and awkward. After being humbled by [Nonito] Donaire, he's more hungry and determined to have nothing or no one stop him from having a victorious night with Gorres. His awkwardness will be a huge advantage during the fight. Click here to view a list of other articles written by Ryan Songalia. |
