Kownacki Decisions Arreola
By Ralph Rimpell PhilBoxing.com Sun, 04 Aug 2019

NEW YORK -- In the main event Heavyweight Adam Kownacki (20-0, 15KOs) of Brooklyn by way of Poland won a unanimous decision victory over 3 time world title challenger Chris Arreola (38-6-1,33KOs) of Los Angeles.
With most of the support in the crowd for Kownacki from the Polish community, the evening did not go as planned for Kownacki even though he got the eventual victory.
Kownacki looked to make a statement by trying to overwhelm the seasoned veteran Arreola for a quick stoppage in the early rounds like he has other opponents. Arreola's experience, defense, and chin was just to sturdy for Kownacki to demolish. In addition to that, Arreola had world class trainer Joe Goosen in his corner.
It was a fight that could have been fought in a phone booth, for those of us old enough to remember what phone booths were before we had cell phones. Both men fought "toe to toe" and didn't back down. It was an exciting bout, but there were no knockdowns and neither fighter seemed seriously hurt during the 12 round fight.
Kownacki outworked Arreola over 12 rounds to earn the decision. Two Judges scored it 118-110 while the other had it 117-111 for Knownacki. At the post fight interview in the ring, it was announced this fight broke the record for most punches in a heavyweight fight according to compubox.
Kownacki said he is hoping to get a title shot for his next fight.
