SULAIMAN REJECTS RUBILLAR-OMAR NINO PURSE BID

PhilBoxing.com

WBC president Don Jose Sulaiman says he has rejected the purse bid offer of Gary Shaw Promotions for the WBC mandated eliminator between OPBF champion and No. 2 ranked Juanito Rubillar and former champion and No.1 contender Omar Nino.

In an overseas telephone conversation with Viva Sports/Manila Standard Today, Sulaiman said Shaw offered $30,000 or a purse of only $15,000 for each fighter which he declined under WBC rules where he said the organization ?has the authority to decline low offers and that?s what I did.?

He said he there was only one bid and that he ?didn?t think it was fair for both boxers? and he would prefer to go for another bidding.

Viva Sports had earlier initiated talks with Shaw who is scheduled to arrive in Manila on January 21 for a visit, to try and negotiate the staging of the eliminator in Manila but felt that the promoter who handles Omar Nino was asking for too much since it was bigger than the total offer of $30,000 he made in the purse bid aside from expensive perks.

Rubillar who left the fold of Gabriel ?Bebot? Elorde and his wife Arlene who is his registered manager and signed up with former world junior welterweight champion returned to the Elorde camp on Monday.

?Bebot? Elorde revealed that after hearing Mass last Sunday, Rubillar?s wife who was reportedly in tears appealed to them to take her husband back. Elorde said Rubillar apologized for what he had done and after Elorde accepted his apology resumed training at the Elorde gym in Saint Rita?s Village along Sucat, Paranaque.

Rubillar has been ordered to face former world champion Nino Romero with the winner earning a mandatory title shot against champion Edgar Sosa.

Rubillar has a record of 41-10-7 with 19 knockouts while No.1 ranked Omar Nino has a record of 24-2-1 with 10 knockouts.
