'Swift' Smith TKO's Lee Ji Hoon in Round 4 to take WKN Intercontinental Welterweight title
The World Kickboxing Network made its second visit to Northern Ireland this year with the ?PROKICK Back at the Clayton? event presented by Billy Murray on June 23. The night of international kickboxing took place at Clayton Hotel in Belfast featuring a series of bouts with WKN Intercontinental title contested in the headliner of the show.
Representing Europe, Johnny Smith of Northern Ireland faced the representative of Asia Lee Ji Hoon of South Korea. The welterweights squared off in the scheduled for five rounds championship bout under oriental rules.
The encounter ended prior to the final bell. The local athlete claimed the win by TKO in the fourth round after the referee Bob Hunter, had seen enough and stopped the fight under the direction of the ringside doctor.
?Swift? Smith, who celebrated his birthday on the night, earned a prestigious WKN belt, as well as updated his professional kickboxing record to 8-0, 5 KO. Lee Ji Hoon dropped to 26-9, 7 KO.
The rest of the card featured a series of amateur matchups with local and international competitors.
PROKICK Back at the Clayton in Belfast, Northern Ireland was the second event that World Kickboxing Network presented this past weekend (June 22-23). A day earlier, Luca Carnevali and Francesco Picca earned WKN International titles in their respective weight classes battling it out at Invictus Arena 26 in Rome, Italy.
The next on WKN calendar is a trio of events scheduled for this coming weekend in Spain, Reunion and Malta.
