A SLAMBANG SINULOG AFFAIR WITH JOMANZ OMANZ PhilBoxing.com Sun, 13 Jan 2008 The feast of Sto. Ni?o, the patron of Cebu City, will come this year with a slambang entertainment, dubbed simply the "Sinulog Boxing" at the Gaisano Country Mall Parking Area on January 20 with a host of spirited young pugilists from all over the Visayas and Mindanao. The boxing extravaganza will introduce ALA Gym rising jewel Joseph "Jomanz Omanz" Omana of Mandaue City against Pedro "Mayorga" Malco of Butuan City. Omanz is a 17-year-old domolitionist who maintained a defeat-free streak of 10 wins, six of which came by way of knockout. Three of the stoppages came, to his opponent's surpise, in the first round. Any yet, he is probably too young to face Malco, his most daunting challenge to date. At age 29, the rated Malco is an older and more experienced boxer than Omanz. He debuted on October, 2000 by stopping Marnel Masicampo in Manduae City in the first round. He is known to have the staying power for a 12-round golved-knuckle exchange, and has fought in the featherweight and bantamweight divisions under the WBO and IBF. His campaigns stretched outside the Philippines into Japan, Thailand, the United States, and Australia. Although a championship remains elusive for Malco, he has faced many opponnents that Omanz has not dreamed of. And this could be an edged that Malco has over Omanz to put Omanz' winning streak to a halt. Would he be Omanz' nemesis? Featured under the Omana-Malco main event includes a 10-rounder between Edmund Velayo of Cebu City and Jun Intor of Mabinay, Negro Occidental. The opener will be a face off between Joel "Yao Ming" Zaspa of Bantayan Island and Fidel Macarayan of Candijay, Bohol. Two other four-rounders between Mark Jesson Taroja of Esperanza, Agusan del Sur and Jun Tasic of Butuan City; followed by Pedro Salondro of San Remegio against Lemuel Tanugan also of Butuan City. A 6-round fistfight will feature Rolito Nengasca of Barili against Ranie Pamatian of Butuan City. Tasic, Tanugan and Pamatian came from the famous Bernard Yu stable of Butuan City. The event is a feast of sportive feasts coming to us this Sinulog at the Gaisano Country Mall. Pit Senyor! |
