PHOTOS: ANDY RUIZ MASSIVE UPSET VICTORY OVER ANTHONY JOSHUA
PhilBoxing.com Sun, 02 Jun 2019

Mexican-American Andy Ruiz Jr. rocked the heavyweight division when stopped erstwhile undefeated and unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua of Great Britain in the 7th round Saturday night at the historic Madison Square Garden in New York in front of a shocked mostly British crowd and millions of boxing fans all over the world.
Joshua (22-1-0, 21KOs) sent Ruiz (33-1-0, 22KOs) to the canvas with a right-left combo early in the third round in what appeared to be the beginning of the end for the chubby Mexican warrior. Ruiz however returned fire later in the round to deck Joshua two times. Joshua made it through the round but went to his corner with unsteady legs.
From the 4th round onwards it was Ruiz who had the momentum looking to catch Joshua with his fast hands as the Brit didn't really fully recover from the third round beating.
Ruiz finally caught Joshua in the 7th round sending 6-foot-6 heavyweight to the canvas twice before Referee Mike Griffin stopped the contest at 1:27 of the round.
