Orbe chess team reigns in 1st Ahedres Pilipinas Chess Team Tournament PhilBoxing.com Mon, 13 May 2019 THE Orbe chess team "A" proved its supremacy over rival teams in the 1st Ahedres Pilipinas Rapid Chess Team Tournament held at the third floor Alphaland Southgate Mall, Near MRT Magallanes Station, Edsa, Makati City on Sunday. Powered by Narquingel "Archie" Reyes, lawyer Cliburn Anthony Orbe, Fide Master Narquingden "Arden" Reyes and Jaime "Kuting" Criste, the Orbe chess team toppled Team Larry A, 2-5.1.5, in the final round to win the seven round tournament with a total 19 match points and got the top purse P30,000 and a trophy in the one day-event jointly organized by former Olympian member Woman National Master Christy Lamiel Bernales, National Master Marc Christian Nazario and Christian Anthony Flores of the Ahedres Pilipinas. Despite Orbe's earlier loss against Virgen Gil Ruaya on board two, Archie and Kuting trounced Roberto Biron and Gilbert Parna, on board 1 and 4 to get the upper hand. FM Arden salvage a draw in a losing position against 12-times National Open champion Grandmaster Rogelio "Joey" Antonio Jr. on board 3 to lift Team Orbe into a 2.5-1.5 victory over Team Larry A. The Expendables headed by Alfredo Rapanot, Vince Angelo Medina, International Master Jan Emmanuel Garcia and John Wayne Dizon tallied 18 match points to went home the runner-place of P20,000 and a trophy. Araruh spearheaded by Rowell Roque, Recarte Tiauson, Jonthan Docot and Reynaldo Gempero Jr. took P12,000 and trophy for settling third over-all after a superior tie break points against fellow 16 match points UST Tigers Elite chess team bannered by Venz Dwight Kwan, Melito Ocsan Jr., Samson Lim Chhiuh Chhin and International Master Ronald Dableo. UST chess team won P8,000 for their efforts. According to chief arbiter Alfredo Chay of the Chess Arbiter Union of the Philippines, only 1 (one) Master will be allowed in a team but players will be able to choose any board assignment.-Marlon Bernardino- |
