Results from Amateur Boxing in Medellin, Northern Cebu: Serrano Decisions Ampad

Cebuano amateur lightweight Virgel Serrano wins in Medellin

MEDELLIN, Northern Cebu -- The charming seaside Municipality of Medellin in northern Cebu Province enjoyed an exciting evening of amateur boxing on Easter Sunday, an entertaining 10-bout boxing show organized by veteran man of boxing Lorenzo "Chao" Sy that hugely entertained fans, making them crave for more.

In the main battle, promising 16-year-old amateur fighter Virgel Serrano -- trained by experienced Mandaue coach former Asian Games medallist Brix Flores -- outclassed with superior skills and power tough foe Algem Ampad of Team Cortes in their three-rounder non-title rumble in the lightweight division (60-62 kgs).

In the co-feature, local amateur boxer Jhunrel Pilapil, fighting out of the blue corner, scored a unanimous decision win over difficult Jay Masong of Team Bogo in their 57 kgs rumble.

In 52 kgs, fast 'n furious Charles Batiancit of Team Medellin outclassed John Earl Sintos of Team Bogo, in a combat in which both warriors earned huge round of applauses from the fans.

Also, thunder man Clinton Martinez of the popular Joeric Gym decisioned the warrior in the red corner Ramil Manguilinotan of Team Seva. Their 3-round saga was in the 38-39 kgs weight class.

Furthermore, John Kevin Jimenez of Team Cebu outpointed the dangerous Kevin Sumalinog of Team Flores in their battle in the 44.1-46 kgs division.

In the only bout that ended in stoppage, local Medellin fighting boy Jason Mapait overpowered Ramyan Toring of Team Bogo. Mapait's triumph came via RSC in round 2. Their collision was in the 44.1-46 kgs weight class.

In another war in the 44.1-46 kgs division, glory-hungry Geylord Florendo of Team Medellin scored a victory by points over the blue corner fighter James Claude Lecum of Team Bogo.

Moreover, Jezriel Bonghanoy of the Funes Team outmaneuvered Cristo Rey Sungcao of Team Joeric for a unanimous decision win in the 46 kgs division.

Plus, Khyl Sumalinog of Team Seva edged Nyn Cabradilla of the 10,000 BC Gym in a split decision. Their mission was in the lighting fast 32-34 kgs weight class.

In the first bout of the evening and one of the most entertaining, Jason Redondo of Team Bogo -- some times having trouble with his headgear -- decisioned fully-committed fighter July Ogatis of the Medellin Team. The two young boxers battled it out in the 30 kilos division.

The amateur card was indeed a total success that left fans 100% satisfied.

An organizer for this cool amateur event, and serving as ring announcer was Madame Joselyn D. Flores.

Judges for the amateur clashes were Edcelmike Tonacao and former 2-time world champion Dodie Boy Pe?alosa.

In attendance during the amateur show was GAB Cebu Head Office OIC Madame Arlene M. Olondriz as well as GAB judge Noel Flores of Cebu City, third man Romar Kristoffer Embodo of Mango and Neil Papas of San Fernando, Cebu.
