PHOTOS: PORTER WINS BY SPLIT DECISION OVER UGAS

At the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California Saturday night (Sunday in Manila) WBC world welterweight champion Shawn Porter retained his belt by split decision over Yordenis Ugas. Judge Max de Luca had 115-113 and Steve Morrow 116-112 for the Akron, Ohio born Porter while Zachary Young had it 117-111 for Ugas from Cuba who is now residing in Miami, Florida.
Porter (30-2-1, 17KOs) successfully defended the belt he won from Danny Garcia last September and has now won four straight since his defeat to Keith Thurman on June 25, 2016. Ugas (23-4-0, 11KOs) suffered his first loss after winning eight straight since his loss to Amir Imam in 2014.

"The crowd was expecting a big brawl, but that's not the way this fight needed to go tonight. That style that we used left the fight close. We got the win, we're still champion and we're looking forward to what is next.
"The weight cut didn't effect me at all. I was on my toes all night. I was very focused the entire fight and just listening to my corner."
