LOS ANGELES -- Lou Williams sank a deep 3 with 40 seconds to play to lift the Los Angeles Clippers past the stubborn San Antonio Spurs, 116-111, on Thursday night at Staples Center.
Williams, a three-time Sixth Man of the Year awardee, topscored with 23 for Los Angeles and rattled in nine points in the fourth quarter as the Clippers won three in a row and five of their last six. Danilo Gallinari added 19 points and six rebounds while Tobias Harris chipped in 18 points and eight boards.
DeMar DeRozan swished 14-of-30 field goals to finish with 34 points for the Spurs, who dropped their third straight assignments and fell to 7-7 for the season. Rudy Gay pumped in 19 but LaMarcus Aldridge made only 3-of-15 shots for 10 points. San Antonio shot just 39.8 percent from the field (41-of-103) and 31 percent from 3-point distance (9-of-29).
San Antonio, which lost Tony Parker (free agency) and Manu Ginobili (retirement) is going through a rash of injuries including the loss of point guard Dejounte Murray (ACL tear). The team also did not travel with All-Star center Pau Gasol (illness).
The Clippers, meanwhile, rose to 9-5 for fourth place overall in the Western Conference.
