BK's Daniel Jacobs is World Champion Again (Full Report)

Daniel ?Miracle Man? Jacobs has a knack for getting to the top every time life throws him a curve ball. Raised from the tough streets of Brooklyn by his mother, grandmother, and Aunts, he avoided the temptations of the streets and used that to become a decorated amateur boxer. With a promising professional career, he nearly lost is life and career 7 years ago to a rare form of cancer. He battled to beat cancer and went on to become a world champion two years after the life threatening diagnosis.

After a close fight and loss to all time great Gennady ?GGG? Golovkin for the undisputed middleweight title, he was once again on the back of the proverbial line as another contender looking for a title shot. Saturday night at the Hulu theater in Madison Square Garden he made the most of another opportunity to fight for a world title against his stablemate, Sergiy Derevyanchenko. After a tough fight he edged his opponent with a split decision victory for the vacant IBF title. Two judges had it 115-112 for Jacobs and the other had it 114-113 for Derevyanchenko. Jacobs is again at the top of the middleweight division with fellow champions Canelo Alvarez and Demetrius Andrade.

After the fight Jacobs expressed a desire to fight Canelo Alvarez, the man who recently dethroned unified middleweight champion Golovkin. With this victory Jacobs is now a two time middleweight champion of the world and can look forward to some big paydays.

Undercard Results

With Future hall of fame trainer Freddy Roach in his corner, WBA junior welterweight champion Albert Machado (21-0, 17KOs) of Puerto Rico made a big statement by demolishing Yunadale Evans (20-2, 14KOs) in round 1. Machado called out the best fighters in his division.

In a female bout, featherweight Heather Hardy (23-0, 4KOs) of Brooklyn used excellent boxing skill to outbox Shelly Vincent (23-2, 1KO) of Rhode Island to win the vacant WBO version of the female title.

In an entertaining brawl, Reshat Mati (2-0, 1KO) of Albania residing in Brooklyn and a game Juan Carlos Sepulveda (0-2-1, 0KOs) of the Bronx battered each other in a welterweight bought for 4 rounds. Mati was awarded a unanimous decision victory. All judges scored the bout 40-35.

Welterweight prospect Radzhab Butaev from Russia made a statement by making short work of Panama?s Azael Cosio within 3 rounds. At the end of round 3, Cosio had enough punishment and was unable to continue. Butaev is now 10-0, 8KOs, while Cosio drops to 21-8-2, 18KOs.

WBC Continental Americas super welterweight champion, Patrick Day (16-2-1, 7KOs) of Freeport, New York successfully defended his title with a tough unanimous decision victory over Connecticut?s Elvin Ayala (29-12-1, 13KOs). Two judges scored it 100-90 while the other judge saw it 99-91.

In a lightweight bout filled with toe to toe action David Joyce improved his record to 9-0, 7KOs with a unanimous decision victory over Jorge Rojas Zacazontetl who drops to 4-4-1-2KOs

In an exciting Heavyweight Bout, Bakhodir Jalolov from the Ukraine is now 2-0, 2KOs by stopping a game Tyrell Wright (9-3-2, 6KOs) from Jersey City.

Boxing Notes
Are the rumors true? Mikey Garcia and Errol Spence on PPV in February? If so it?s about time. Garcia has been calling out Spence for six months now. If Garcia wins he will be the new Golden Boy of PPV? Glad it?s not only this writer who is picking Tyson Fury to defeat Deontay Wilder in December. Future Hall of trainer Freddy Roach is also picking Fury to defeat Wilder?Very pleased that Floyd Mayweather, Jr has announced his return to boxing for not just 1 fight, but 2 fights! He has announced he will take a ?tuneup fight? before granting WBA welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao a rematch. Mayweather-Pacquiao II will likely do just as well if not better in financial revenue then Mayweather-Pacquiao I. I have been hoping for a rematch since 2015! I guess the expression, ?Good things come to those that wait? is true. I wish both fighter?s the best of luck on PPV and at the box office when they meet again.
